Nottingham (UK), Friday 23rd May, we're reprising our Pentatronix show at the Contemporary - its sure to be another fantastic show with loads of new material to go with old favourite like Deep Freeze - tickets available below or from me if you're local and want to avoid the booking fee!

More chimes work tonight, spot of tabla samples and some flute thrown in.  Looking forward to getting to work with Ling Peng again...

Back home from a night out in Notts, about time to boost signal on some awesome local talent.

Its odd seeing him live.  Promoters want you to be all jumping up and down and whooping, but you actually spend your time staring open mouthed and thinking "you're so effing good" and then singing along when its a song you know.

One of the injustices of life is someone really talented doesn't really get the appreciation (and therefore gigs / money / make a living) that some mediocre people get.

[aside] we played at a gig a couple of years ago out in Derbyshire and the organisers paid us £200, (four musicians) and £250 for a DJ (plays other people's records).  We split the total five ways - but point is its hard to get the right remuneration for good talent and (relatively) easy to get cash for not having that talent.

I've been trying Corel PaintShop Pro for some tarting about.  I don't really want to spend the silly money for Adobe full kit and GIMP isn't really to my tastes - what else is out there that's good and reasonably priced?  I use to love PSP when Jasc owned it, but since then the user interface has got steadily worse and frankly counter-intuitive and stupid.  (e.g. I highlight part of a cell value in a toolbar and hit delete to reduce the size of something and it deletes the contents of the layer instead - example two - I'm on a vector layer and try to use the pick tool to select a vector object and the tool changes focus to a raster layer and selects the entire background).

I could go on, but basically I want something in the £50 / $100 range that can do layers and effects, has brushes and shape tools and other (fairly standard by today's rates) functionality.  That doesn't make me shout at the screen.  Any ideas?

Regrettably CS2 wasn't really free and the link went a while back.  Adobe got effectively hit with a DDoS attack at eveyone piled on and then had a "technical glitch" and couldn't provide the service for existing customers any more.

+Dave McAlister I'll have to see if I can find an old version somewhere!

Happy National Muay Thai Day everyone! Low kicks are all you need at my age - “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”

Good imagery!  "Germany rolls up its sleeves, looks at France, and punches Belgium."

If World War One Was a Bar Fight

I saw this a few years ago & it seems to be making the rounds again.

Favorite line: "Germany rolls up its sleeves, looks at France, and punches Belgium."

Ceri from our band was off with more pasty-faced gringos in Brazil very recently.  Great stuff - shame handhelds can't capture decent sound from a bloco (as always!).  Still, lots of smiley faces! #samba #riodejaneiro #sabarsoundsystem
