Another good reminder not to judge people based on appearance... :)

Two years ago today, my client, who was serving a life sentence on a theft case was released shortly after Prop. 36 passed after we petitioned the court for relief. This morning--- his "release anniversary"- he walked into our office, a box of donuts in hand, and thanked me and my investigator, Ann Ruz, for all the work we'd done. As a bonus, we heard all about his amazing progress. Today, something as simple as a box of donuts reminds me what we're fighting for... #justice

Here's a link to an article I wrote about him for California Lawyer: http://www.callawyer.com/clstory.cfm?eid=929526&wteid=929526_The_Joy_of_Advocacy

Last Thursday, the day before trial, I couldn't sleep... worried that a jury wouldn't be able to look at the facts, and see past my client's tattoos and background to the truth. Yesterday, twelve average jurors did exactly that, finding him not guilty of everything he was charged with. As I stood there next to him, I saw a juror cry when she saw my client bow his head in relief. I believed that my client was innocent, and yesterday twelve jurors agreed. It was a great day....

A great outcome today after several motions and a lot of hard work.
