A near missed accident happened yesterday.

While I was about to balanced the scope by loosening the counterweight, the 5kg c/w slipped down the shaft.

The scope swung to one side. My right hand immediately grabbed the scope, while my left trying to hold the counterweight.

Unfortunately, I didn't attached the locking screw at the end of the counterweight shaft.

The 5kg 'stone' fell out from the shaft towards my foot. Freefall from the height of about 2 feet. Managed to move my foot away in time. The weight fell onto the floor without any thumping NOISE!

Strange!

Then I look down and noticed the EQ6 controller (which was lying around underneath the mount) looks weird.

That's when I realized the cable has been CUT CLEANED all the way through! The CW fell on its sharp side directly on the cable!

Lucky me, THAT wasn't my toe!

So, to all using the big heavy-duty Equatorial mount with counterweights, please be extra careful!

I was trembling like hell after that! šŸ˜°

Mosaic attempt gone bad. But at least got some pretty amazing view at the "Terminator"!

Has anyone done some coding using Brandon Rhode's Skyfield API for python? http://rhodesmill.org/skyfield/

I'm having trouble trying to understand the cryptic documentation. Not enough real-life example, as compared to Pyephem.

Another try-out with limited data. focusing on Scorpius.. and Mars.. and Saturn.. and numerous dark nebulae.

Color saturation inspired from Alan Dyer's awesome work.

It's been a great brief visit to Coonabarabran for the past week.

Unfortunately it was a stop-and-go situation with the weather. My initial plan to create some nice mosaic using the nifty 50mm has been hampered with the clouds.

But all is not lost. I still managed to get some good data set to play around with.

Here's a 12 X 30sec shot, using 50mm f/1.8 (stopped at 2.4) with a modded 5DMkii , tracked with Vixen Polarie. Processed in PixInsight.
