A beautiful return to flight with a picture-perfect launch and landing out of Vandenberg AFB this morning. 10 satellites deployed and the first west coast booster landing on drone ship Just Read The Instructions.

Launch starts around 28 minutes into the webcast.

Google Maps Responds to Voice Commands Now

While driving you can now, activate Voice Commands for Google Maps by saying "OK Google" - check out the Google instructions on this: https://goo.gl/feHIZP.

Beyond the fact that this is a further expansion of AI and Voice Search in the Googleverse it is also one step closer to the "Computer, plot a course for the Andromeda Nebula" moment ;)

I saw a thing today! The first #SpaceX #Falcon9 booster to be successfully landed had been cleaned up and is being put on permanent display outside their headquarters in Hawthorne, CA.

Watch the Perseid Meteor Shower at Its Peak Tonight

“The last time we had an outburst, that is a meteor shower with more meteors than usual, was in 2009. This year’s Perseid meteor shower is predicted to be just as spectacular starting tonight!”

Looks like fire season has officially started. Since about 4:30pm yesterday, over 19,000 acres have burned, 100+ structures destroyed, 3 firefighters hospitalized, and 2 fatalities.

I don't even know what to say about this. The technology is amazing, that's for sure.

Sounds like a pretty hard landing. Can't wait to see the smooth version of the landing footage.

Rocket landing speed was close to design max & used up contingency crush core, hence back & forth motion. Prob ok, but some risk of tipping.

Elon Musk ‏@elonmusk
Crush core is aluminum honeycomb for energy absorption in the telescoping actuator. Easy to replace (if Falcon makes it back to port).

@elonmusk Sounds similar to the single-use shock absorbers used in the Apollo LM legs https://www.flickr.com/photos/jurvetson/6503010689#comment72157628401556307 … & may have => one giant leap
