JOB OPENING: Program Director, Phinney Neighborhood Association: http://bit.ly/1I7RztY
Because sometimes your dream job involves directing a tool library, soup kitchen, art gallery, education program, farmers market, home fair, and cultural engagement effort all at once. (And also because, at other times, it's helpful to work next door to Phinney Ridge Starbucks & Red Mill Burgers.)

As the PhinneyWood neighborhood continues to grow with new developments and restaurants, this annual event offers a nice chance for local food security to be supported by that growth rather than divorced from it. (It's also quite yummy.)
Eat out to help your neighbors in need! Over 30 neighborhood restaurants, pubs and coffee shops will donate a portion of their sales on Wednesday, October 8th, to the PNA's Hot Meal Program. Help make this a win/win for the program AND the businesses. Visit your favorite restaurant or try out a ...

One of my two favorite mobile units was seen rolling along in the Grand Parade today. If you didn't have a chance to cheer on the +West Seattle Food Bank's new van this morning, be sure to swing by West Seattle Outdoor Movies tonight to see Gravity on the wall of +Hotwire Online Coffeehouse. Proceeds will benefit both the West Seattle & White Center Food Banks.

There are very few places where you can witness back-to-back demonstrations of rapid prototyping and backyard beer making. Don't miss your chance today at West Seattle GreenLife. Great demos all weekend! http://www.sustainablewestseattle.org/2014/06/11787/

Half a mile, uphill, in the rain. Impressive on all levels.

The earlier, the better, to teach the youngest members of our community about giving and volunteering. In that spirit, the Admiral Cooperative Preschool 4-year-olds embarked on quite a field trip today. Karrie Riemer shares the photos: First, they went to West Seattle Thriftway (WSB sponsor) to collect nonperishable-food donations for the WS Food Bank. Then [...]

Thomas Piketty’s 685 page "Capital" might be the most celebrated & unread bestseller ever. Here's a nice article if you, like most, maybe lost a little steam around page 26.
If you don’t have time for Thomas Piketty’s comprehensive best seller, here’s a quick five-point take on the gap between the rich and poor.

It's officially impossible to resent big box hardware stores this week with +The Home Depot planning to introduce 3D printing and employees at +Lowe's Home Improvement restoring one's faith in humanity (right along with some broken wheelchair bolts.) It seems Makers and Fixers are now everywhere.

Thanks to +West Seattle Thriftway, an anonymous donor, & returning champion Chris Porter for bringing in close to $700 worth of Western Family products for the +West Seattle Food Bank during yesterday's shopping spree. Such awesome generosity all around!

$669.75 worth of Western Family products from the shelves of West Seattle Thriftway (WSB sponsor) are on their way to West Seattle Food Bank clients, thanks to the WST customer who donated a shopping spree to the WSFB, and the mad speedy-shopping skills of WSFB board member Chris Porter (top left), who filled the cart [...]
