Our Beginner Beekeeping course at Lyman Woods begins in February. This 6-week course will introduce you to basic honeybee biology, social insect behavior and honeybee colony dynamics as well as teach you the ins and outs of maintaining a hive throughout the entire year. Marge will take you through everything from ordering gear and equipment to harvesting honey and other products of the hive while she discusses what she has learned in her years of experience with over 20 hives. Participants will receive a beginner's beekeeping book as part of the course.

Visitors to the interpretive center can see our worm farm in action  - and on Sept 18 we're holding a two hour workshop to teach participants how to become a worm farmer! They'll even leave with a pound of red worms to get their farm started.

Worm farms recycle your food waste into ideal natural fertilizers to improve the health of your garden. Register for the workshop online at http://bit.ly/wormwork #dgparks   #worms

Another mention of our honey bees in the Doweners Grove Suburban Press! http://www.mysuburbanlife.com/2014/08/18/thumbs-up-thumbs-down-for-downers-grove/afv3b21/  - although it's worth mentioning that the park district does not actually make a profit from honey sales, all revenue helps cover the cost of the beekeeping program.
