Hurricane Irene Coverage Now. Working on how wind velocity can increase for those living in high rises... expect winds 50 mph at surface in NYC --- on the 10th floor that means 60 mph, on the 20th floor = 112 mph Expect a Category increase for every 10 floors you are up! 10th Floor and below are less likely to see windows blow out. Many buildings have glass built to withstand 100 mph winds but construction varies.

Introduction
Amy Freeze is an Emmy award winning meteorologist.  She is one of a few women in the world with a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist accreditation from the American Meteorological Society.  Freeze has Seals of Approval from both the AMS and the National Weather Association.  She is a Meteorologist at WABC News in New York City. 

Freeze has a Master Degree from University of Pennsylvania in Environmental Science.  Her educational background includes a B.A. in Communications from Brigham Young University, with an emphasis on Broadcast Journalism. She has a B.S. in Geosciences from Mississippi State University, with an emphasis on Severe Weather and Forecasting.  She also has a Certificate of Broadcast Meteorology from MSU.  Freeze also studied foreign politics abroad in both South Africa and Germany.

She was the first female Chief Meteorologist in Chicago, working for Fox News.  She has worked in Philadelphia for NBC TV and served as a broadcast meteorologist in Denver and Portland.
