I was taken here on my birthday recently and fell in love with this little place. Th! The staff was knowledgable and helpful, the menu was brimming with delicious options and the food was impeccable! We started off with the udon noodles, which were delicious and a unagi hand roll - two great dishes to share. Then we moved onto the wagu beef ( my ultimate fave of the night) and tried the maki tempura, which was a visual feast for the eyes as well as a feast for the stomach! They were also trying out a new cocktail menu - the few that I had were delightful, there was a bit of a wait as the bartenders became acclimated with the new drink list, but our waitress was quick to bring us some complimentary sake to hold us over. Overall, it was a delicious dining experience from start to finish! They even brought us over a little dessert ramekin of earl grey ice cream topped with granola crumble at the end of our meal a sweet and delightful little treat! This is the perfect place for special occasions or friends visiting who have a palette for the unusual (yet delicious)!

Went here for a birthday dinner based on a friends recommendation. I had the seasme noodles which was the most interesting and delicious thing I ate. The surprising part of it was the introduction of the fish taste. For the main course I had the maki roll, which is a beast. Each piece is larger than a home cooked hamburger and eating it reminds me of the chipotle burrito experience where each bite has a different ratio of the ingredients and thus makes for a renewed intoxication of tastiness. The final dish was the kobe which was a straightforward steak on a plate but its kobe and that meat needs nothing else besides it because you probably would end up hating everything else in the shadow of the kobe's glory.

I love this place! The brunch is so unique and full of flavor... I had the smoked char bowl and this octopus pancake thing (sorry not sure what it is called) I was reluctant to write a review only because i don't want too many people knowing about this gem. The restaurant is fairly small, so make sure you make reservations, or get there early.

Izakaya meets Gabriel Stulman atmosphere. Food pretty good but over-priced for what it is - the same old 'inventive' Japanese food

Chez Sardine was not that well rated on Yelp, but I came on a friend's recommendation. It was unique in that it blended a western and Japanese feel. The food was well done too. Definitely worth a try - though they don't take reservations!

Chez Sardine is a great Izakaya-style sushi and seafood spot in the heart of the West Village. They offer a range of really delicious and inventive pieces - think tapas but with sushi that has some western flair to it. The cocktail list also shares the same approach to diversity and is well-thought out. Though pricey, this place is a great addition to the Fedora, Joseph Leonard and Jeffrey's Grocery family.
