Went last night with a group. Totally forgettable. I honestly do not plan on dining there again. Fried shrimp was good. Green beans unseasoned - fresh, perhaps, but no flavor. Baked potato was, well a baked potato. One of our party had scallops that tasted like ammonia - sent back and got oysters. Baked potato was black inside half - cut it off and ate the rest (ha). Above all, the prices were ridiculously high. I have no problem paying $16.95 for a shrimp dinner ($24.95 with drink and gratuity added), but I want to walk out of there totally satiated and wanting to come back. Server was apologetic and charming.

This place is a fantastic diamond in the rough. Friendly staff and excellent food! We went on a local's recommendation and I'm so glad we did.

I realize the numbers I selected are low and apologize for that, they don't tell the story of Nicks. This is a locals joint, not that they do not get tourists, they do. But they do not close at the end of high season, hence the locals crowd. I like to sit on the left side so I can hear the antics in the kitchen, there is usually running commentary. I love the hushpuppies they serve instead of bread, they are the perfect blend of onion and sweetness. I typically opt for the broiled seafood platter, but when lobster is available, that is a fine choice too. Always ask for ice water and iced tea or a beer, they do not come by to refill very often when they are busy and they are busy a lot. This is also a great place to come for breakfast, the crab omelet and grits ( or homefries) make a wonderful start for the day.

I had lunch at Nicks on Thursday, the 16th of October. I am 74 years old and have lived in Tidewater most of my life. I love seafood of all types and have many happy memories of fried filet of fresh flounder during my childhood....but its been many years since I've found it's equal. Lunch at Nicks served up a delicious, large flounder filet which took me back. I will be visiting Nicks a lot in the future.
