Third in our enews series giving more details about new features for the Certification Program. We really want you forming skills from day one, so we've amp'd up the experientials in the course even more. We're giving you more art making time and ideas. We've set up more demos with variety of practitioners so you hear different voices, paces, and creative approaches to grief experiences. Looking forward to connecting with our March 2017 session, and spaces are still open if you want to join us...

While there are many theories out in the world such as the "stages of grief" or "positive psychology" for approaching death and grief experiences, one of the drawbacks of focusing on these kinds of models is that they sets us up for "universal" thinking. If you, your family, or your caregivers bring only one of these models to the table, we are all then saddled with making this one theory fit every single experience and every single one of us. The "universal" nature of this fails us when we don't fit, and shame is then added on top of grief as we wrestle with "what is wrong with us" or "why can't we do this death and grief thing properly" types of thoughts. So with this show, we are aiming to break open the framework of (or even outright debunk) things like "closure" and "getting over it" to show that there are as many varieties of creative approaches to death and grief as there are humans.

Join us, First Friday, March 2017, 6 to 9pm, at Vashon's Heron's Nest / Two Wall Gallery to check out the show: "Creative Approaches to Death, Dying, and Grief Experiences"

This article is from a couple years ago, but I have so much love for the heART and creativity being tapped here as a part of grief experience, as a part of taking a social justice stand. Just <3

Updated this from the heART series to be on journals and stickers and other things in the gallery now, too. Realized that only a few of these are even in the gallery in any way...there must be 20 in the full series, so it reminds me how I lose track of working the pieces to share (beyond just the insta share I do when stuff is done). Anyway, here's heARTful vibes to you for your Saturday:
