WOW.

This is the most indepth study I have seen in a long time. If you read this and make some takeaways there's a good chance you can plan out a solid content based campaign for your site that will help it rank well. Cheers to +cognitiveSEO for the write up

Web Index Crawlers vs. Fact Extraction Crawlers

Google crawls and indexes pages on the Web. With Google's knowledge panel, they also crawl and index objects on the Web. It's as if there's been a parallel process at Google for over a decade (which is around as long as Q&A results have been around).

A newly granted patent from Google has a fact extraction crawler (janitors) looking at anchor text in links to pages about entities to learn new names for those entities. With these "janitors" or fact extraction crawlers looking at something that web indexing crawlers usually only looked at, it seems like the two separate crawling approaches are meeting in the middle.

This is the first part of this post, and the second part will focus more on how other names for an entity are identified using anchor text.

How Big Are the Major Social Networks?

Great collection of the most recent data from each network: http://www.thesocialmediahat.com/active-users from +The Social Media Hat. I'm impressed to see Google+'s growth and surprised that LinkedIn isn't more popular.
