The rooms are a little small, but very nicely appointed. Totally comfortable and clean, I'd definitely stay here again.

Shade Hotel is a boutique hotel located in downtown Manhattan Beach. The rooms are not large, but they are designed well, and with sliding wooden doors enable you to open your room to provide a visual feeling of more space. The room decor is well designed, complete with groovy lights and vacuum fire tubes. For cheaper rates, you can get the rooms that sit above the bar. Be aware that although they state the bar closes at 11pm, the bar actually stays open as people finish their drinks. It can stay loud until past midnight. There are two bars in the hotel, one on the first floor, the second on the roof deck which has a small sitting pool in the middle of it. The roof deck is often closed for private events, so it pays to call ahead and see if anything is scheduled that might negate your ability to enjoy that part of the hotel. The bars are bustling, with a mixture of locals and out of towners. It can be quite a scene, so prepare for sequin shirts, cologne, and other good stuff. If you're interested in staying at Shade but aren't sure if you want to, stop by and ask for a room tour, they'll great and give you an idea of the hotel. Pro tips - the quietest rooms are the ones on the 2nd floor as far away from the bar as possible. However - every Wednesday there is a farmers market in Manhattan Beach, and these rooms sit directly above it - so prepare for early morning noise as the vendors prepare.

Beautiful rooms with jacuzzi tubs. My favorite part of Shade are the cupcakes and bottles of Fiji water they provide each evening -- soooooooo delicious! Make sure to check out the sky deck to get out of the shade, and make sure to ask for a room with a fire cyclone (you'll love it!).

Lovely place. My husband and I celebrated part of our honeymoon here and came back for our one year anniversary. The price is worth it. The hotel let's you rent movies for free and the bar tenders were kind and knowledgeable. The DVD player was not working so we called in the front desk. A helpful and respectful employee came right away. The price is worth the experience. Also great location to coffee the beach which is walking distance and to coffee shops. The team made us feel like we were their valued customer. Nothing to complain about!
