Giving La Finca y El Mar 1 star instead of none because their drinks are really quite good and very elegantly crafted... with that said, the communication and service is HORRENDOUS. We had made dinner reservations two nights before and it was good. There is a bit of an uppity, Real Housewives of Nicaragua-feel which we didn't really care for, but the food was presented well and good. The drinks were great, which is why we decided to go back a second night. Since we couldn't call, being on vacation from America, we emailed to see if we needed reservations to go to the bar. (Reservations per email had worked fine 2 nights before.) The email I got back in response was verbatim: "Hi Marilyn! Sure you can come, have your information, that's enough Have a Good Day" After taking 30+ minutes to walk over to the restaurant, we were halted and the man at the bridge had to call for support. We had to wait there for about 5 minutes while other people just walked on by us until someone else from the restaurant came down. When an English speaking worker came down and asked what we wanted, we said that we simply wanted to get drinks at the bar and reviewed what we had been told via email. After another 5 minutes of waiting she said that they didn't have my email and reservations were required and not accepted on weekends (it was a Sunday evening). None of that was described via email OR via the website so this information came as a complete surprise. (It also felt like a convenient excuse for simply not wanting to serve us.) The most upsetting part about the night is that the female worker told us that this happens A LOT. People come to eat there and are CONSTANTLY TURNED DOWN and LEAVE UPSET because they're told they can come via email but then that message doesn't get down to the people waiting to let them in. If this is their business model, it needs to be changed. The fact that a business would willingly OVER AND OVER AGAIN turn down paying customers is beyond me. All I can say is that there are A LOT of BETTER restaurants in the area that welcome anyone to eat there. And isn't that the intended feel of Nicaragua? This restaurant seems like it was pulled from the depths of Beverly Hills and plopped in a place it doesn't belong.

Ellison is an amazing dude...He has lived out at Folly most of his life and truly understands the water in the area. It was very important for me to understand the ocean, currents and general safety. Ellison was able to teach me to surf and keep me aware of the ocean around me. He helped me spot rip currents, optimal tides, and trade winds that enabled me to pick the best time to go out during my lesson and on my own. Ellison pushed me into my first wave, helped my buy my first board, and was just down the beach when I got my first barrel! Don't sell out, go with Folly Beach Surf Lessons. The Thomas brothers are real.
