Blake Hanson joined WDSU in May 2012 as a general assignment reporter. You can catch his reports on WDSU News This Morning from 5 a.m. - 7 a.m.
Blake comes to WDSU from KOMU-TV (NBC) in Columbia, Missouri where he did nearly every job. During his four years in Missouri he reported, anchored, produced, operated live trucks and worked the assignment desk. He also worked at Newsy.com where he wrote and anchored stories published to mobile apps and to the front page of The Huffington Post. While working at Newsy.com and KOMU-TV, Blake was simultaneously attending classes at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He graduated from Mizzou with a major in Radio-TV Journalism and a minor in Political Science.
He has won several awards for his accomplishments. In May 2011, Fox News Channel flew him and a colleague to New York City to showcase their story on-air as the Grand Prize winner for the Fox News College Challenge. He was also a championship finalist in the Hearst Television competition.
Blake has a knack for covering the big stories. He was one of the first reporters on the ground reporting live via satellite after a massive tornado struck Joplin, killing 162 people. When massive flooding threatened the livelihood of thousands of farmers in Southeast Missouri, he was reporting live via Skype, and feeding back stories from the disaster-ridden flood lands.
As a native Minnesotan, Blake enjoys braving the great outdoors but will take a little while getting used to the heat and humidity of Southeast Louisiana.
Blake is a bit of a social media geek. You can connect with him on Twitter (@BlakeMHanson) and Facebook (Blake Hanson WDSU).
