A/N: I already have a lot of modern rm stuff, but I guess I'll do another.
Levi wandered through the streets of Paris, lost in thought. Years of living in the city of love had caused it to lose its charm to him. He had long since abandoned the notion of finding "true love" in a city full of people who didn't understand what it was like to grow up without sunlight.
Levi's earlier years had been spent in the serious of tunnels criss crossing underneath the pristine streets that supported the Eiffel tower and shops full of European luxury items.
Levi scoffed at the thought. It had taken him years to escape from that hell.
Mikasa sat on a bench, sipping on a smoothie she had purchased at a small cafe. The Eiffel tower glinted in the sunlight, tourists swarming around the base of it, chattering and laughing and taking pictures.
Paris was lonely without Eren and Armin. Three days ago, Eren had called to say he and Armin had decided to extend their vacation in Tokyo and would come meet her in a week.
Mikasa sighed and was about to close her eyes when she saw a young man pass by. He had sullen looking eyes and straight black hair styled in an undercut. That was slightly strange, he looked very different and out of place on the posh streets of Paris.
But something about him drew her in. He seemed familiar, but that was impossible, she surely would remember meeting someone who looked like him.
She shook her head to shake herself out of her daydream when suddenly, she realized he was standing right in front of her. "Oi, brat. If you're going to stare at someone, at least have the decency to be discreet about it," he said in a deep voice. She flushed. "I wasn't trying to be rude," she retorted. "Maybe I was trying to figure out that tattoo on your arm."
Levi looked down at his bicep, looking at the design she was referring to. It was a peculiar symbol. Levi had seen and somewhere and had immediately taken a liking to it. So much so that he had it inked onto his skin. Two wings, on blue and one white crossed over each other. Levi had done some research on it and couldn't find any references to it. So he had adopted it as his own and he was surprised she had noticed.
"I feel like I've seen it before," the girl continued. Levi looked at her incredulously. He had researched it extensively and had been unable to find. His curiosity thoroughly aroused, he asked, "Where?"
The girl shrugged, "I don't know, maybe in a dream." Levi felt his eye twitch. Seriously? A dream? No fucking help here.
"An insignia. One that represents a protector of humanity, something that happened a long time ago," she finished.
A protector of humanity, huh? Levi pondered. For some reason it seemed to fit. He took a good look at the young woman. Straight dark hair, much like his own, stormy eyes and a flawless pale complexion. Beautiful enough to be a model.
For some reason, Levi felt a small twinge of recognition, but he would have remembered meeting her. "What are you doing in Paris?" he asked bluntly. She shrugged, "I'm an artist. I came to visit to see what it was like. There's nothing more romantic than Paris." Levi snorted, "Romance? I never would have pegged you as someone with their head in the clouds." Levi paused for a moment, confused. How would he know what she was like? He'd never seen her before. Or had he?
A/N: yeah, yeah. To be continued.
