We went to watch Star Wars last night, loved the film but Skellig Michael certainly stole the show.
This photo was taken on our last visit to the Skelligs in 2013, I'd love to return in 2016. Visiting this incredible place is one of the best experiences I've ever had.

St. Fin Barre's Cathedral, Cork City.

The Cathedral was designed by the renowned Victorian architect William Burges. The construction of the Cathedral began in 1863, however it stands on the site of the ancient monastery founded by St. Finbarr in the early seventh century.

We visited St. Fin Barre's Cathedral last night for the launch of the superb new publication 'Graves, Wells & Statues: Exploring the heritage and culture of pilgrimage in medieval and modern Cork by Dr. Louise Nugent (of Pilgrimage in Medieval Ireland) and Dr. Richard Scriven.

For further details of where to purchase the book see

The ruins of Teampall na Naomh on Inchagoill Island on Lough Corrib, County Galway.

Teampall na Naomh dates to the twelfth century and features a wonderful Romanesque doorway, decorated with fascinating depictions of human heads.

Inchagoill Island is certainly one of my favourite sites that we visited this year. This atmospheric wooded island is wonderful place to explore.

Adare Castle, County Limerick.

Surrounded by mature trees on the banks of the River Maigue, there’s no doubt that Adare Castle is one of the most beautiful medieval castles in Ireland. It was first constructed in the early thirteenth century to defend a major fording point of the River Maigue.

Darby’s Bed (also known as Duntryleague Passage Tomb), is the remains of a passage tomb situated near the summit of a steep hill just outside the village of Galbally in County Limerick.

The tomb is steeped with legends and folklore, and the tragic lovers Diarmuid and Gráinne are said to have sheltered for a night inside this tomb when they were fleeing Fionn mac Cumhaill. This tomb is one of a number of prehistoric monuments in the locality, it really is a fascinating archaeological landscape.
