Here's my K40 electronics. I've got an analog control panel and the pot goes to that 3-pin B/R/G connector, 2nd from the top on the PSU.

I was all ready to pull that connector and use the PWM cable to the C3D Mini instead but just now saw a comment from Ray saying "Take everything you read with a grain of salt, for example we no longer recommend replacing the pot."

Is that comment talking about this? Should I just not use the PWM cable for now or am I misreading things?

Thanks!

Hi.

As I'm getting ready to install a C3D Mini on a K40, I'm thinking more and more that ethernet might be nice option.

Any cons to doing this?

I see 10 or so LAN8720 boards at Amazon, all about the same price. Anything I should look/look-out for here or are these things pretty much all the same?

I know it's just now mid-February but any info/news on the next batch of Minis? I feel like a kid before xmas here.

I've been reading a bit on what to do with that ground connector on the side of my K40. I'm in the US and a condo in an old factory-type place like 100 years old that was totally gutted & rebuilt maybe 12-13 years ago.

2 questions from somebody that really does not know electronics.

1: I'm nearly positive that the electrical here is all up to recent spec and that that 3rd prong on the cord will be grounded. Is there anything easy & safe that I can do to confirm this?

2: The back of the machine looks like it has 2 switched outlets. I'm guessing that when I power the machine on, these also get power. Both of these 2-prong plugs. Would it make sense to convert these to 3-prong plugs and tie the 3rd to the ground so everything is common? Possibly a stupid question - I really have no idea.

Thanks!

Hi all. Total newbie here. Just ordered a K40 yesterday - xmas comes early!

I saw this over at Kickstarter but don't see much more info anywhere.

"Since most of the usable pins of the LPC chip has been broken out on the Re-ARM, you can use it for other purposes. Like a custom shield to upgrade the K40 Laser to smoothie and control it using LaserWeb by Peter van der Walt. How about a CNC shield that uses external drivers? You can create your own shields to fit your motion control needs.

K40 is a low cost(< $400) Laser engraver that can be modified to perform like more expensive machines by using Smoothieware and Laserweb. The Re-ARM plus the K40 shield allows an easy upgrade. There is an active G+ community dedicated to K40 Laser modifications that can be found (link). "

Anybody have thoughts on this new controller from kickstarter or info on where I can find a "K40 shield"?

Thanks!
