Grace, as Jesus revealed it, is the gift you need. If you are poor and in debt, grace is your year of jubilee. If you are a prisoner, grace is freedom. If you are oppressed, grace is deliverance. If you are blind and sitting in darkness, grace is the gift of sight. If you are shackled with sin, grace is complete forgiveness. Grace is a good gift!

Preach grace and you’ll hear you’re not preaching the “whole counsel” of God. What’s that?

When the Ephesians wandered from their first love, their first love came looking for them. And when he found them he showed them the way home: “Remember the height from which you’ve fallen!”

Remember! What a simple yet powerful remedy for those who have strayed. Why did the prodigal head home? He remembered the height from which he had fallen. What will bring you back when you stray into dead works? Remembering the high and lofty love of your heavenly Father. His love is your true home. It’s where you belong.

You were made to receive and respond to your Father’s love. If you become distracted from your true source of love, you will wander the earth in search of it. You may search for love and affirmation through religion or worldly pleasures, but until you encounter the love of God expressed in Jesus, you will be a restless wanderer, a stray in need of a shepherd.

Why would Paul pray that you might know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge? Because there is a danger you might not know. You might forget it or leave it. God’s love is like air. We cannot live without it.

Repentance, which means a change of mind! Formerly I thought sin a pleasant thing, but now I have changed my mind about it; formerly I thought the world an attractive place, but now I know better; formerly I regarded it a miserable business to be a Christian, but now I think differently. Once I thought certain things delightful, now I think them vile; once I thought other things were worthless, now I think them most precious. That is a change of mind, and that is repentance. No life can be truly changed apart from such a change of mind.

To continue in the faith is to hold fast to Jesus. It is refusing to be suckered into empty religion or conned into self-trust. It is being grounded and settled in Christ and remaining unmoved from the hope of the gospel. It is giving thanks to God who has reconciled you to himself and will present you as holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.
