One of the most compelling things about running one of the largest Big Data and Analytics specific groups on Linkedin is what people talk about. This is not necessarily a case of monitoring every aspect of what is said and commented on in the group (having just passed the 100,000 member mark, monitoring every conversation and comment would be impossible). What is interesting is which conversations gain the most traction. Our most popular discussio...

Starting to test Google Domains

It's 2014 and it seems obvious, but across laptops, tablets and mobile devices, a website is one of the first places people go to find information about a business. But amazingly, our research shows that 55% of small businesses still don't have one.

So as we explore ways to help small businesses succeed online (through tools like Google My Business [http://goo.gl/Ajvbn5] ), we thought it made sense to look more closely at the starting point of every business’s online presence - a website. And that starts with a domain name.

We’re beginning to invite a small number of people to kick the tires on Google Domains [http://goo.gl/pHvjoO], a domain registration service we’re in the process of building. Businesses will be able to search, find, purchase and transfer the best domain for their business - whether it’s .com, .biz, .org, or any of the wide range of new domains that are being released to the Web.

Google Domains isn’t fully-featured yet, but we’re giving a small group of people the ability to buy and transfer domains through it and send feedback on their experience. (You currently need an invitation code to do so, sorry!) We want input on all the ways we can help make finding, buying, transferring and managing a domain a simple and transparent experience. We also want to make sure our customer support and infrastructure works flawlessly, and that we have the right additional services (like mobile website creation tools and hosting services from a range of providers, as well as domain management support). We're working with some of the top website building providers like +Shopify, +Squarespace, +Weebly, and +Wix.com  to help make that happen.

While we’re still building out all of the features, our goal is to make Google Domains more widely available soon. You can check out the first cut of what we’re working on at www.google.com/domains.

Introduction
Stephen Monaco is the founder of Evolve Adaptive Marketing, LLC and Future Marketing Institute, LLC. He provides executive-level strategic marketing consulting services to effectively realize business goals for companies of all sizes. Stephen is also the co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer for Datastorm Technologies, Inc., a thriving early-stage company in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) space in Dallas, Texas.

Monaco was instrumental in engaging online communities back in the days of the BBS and CompuServe. In 1987, six years before the web browser was invented, he was using the strategies and tactics that are now considered best practices in social media marketing. Using these methods he led Datastorm Technologies from a raw start-up to $50 million in annual revenue that reached #376 on Inc. Magazine's list of the 500 fastest growing companies in the US. Datastorm Technologies experienced 40 consecutive profitable quarters of growth!

Stephen's marketing prowess was the driving force behind the world's best-selling PC data communications program of all time, Datastorm Technologies' software mega brand, ProComm, which was published in 11 languages and obtained 70% global market share.

His successful product positioning and pricing strategies from Datastorm Technologies are utilized as examples in the Instructor's Resource Manual for Philip Kotler's graduate-level college text book, Marketing Management, Eleventh Edition.

He has served as the Chief Marketing Officer for a handful of companies in the US and Canada, and been retained on a consulting basis to help companies across North America and Europe ranging from large publicly-traded corporations like Microsoft and Digital River, to one of the world's 10 largest PR firms - Edelman Public Relations Worldwide, to funded start-ups.

Monaco was highly ranked on the Top 100 Social Media Agencies & Consultants for 2013, and as one of the top marketing experts to follow on Twitter.

He has spoken on marketing strategy, social marketing, social media strategy, and entrepreneurism at The Kauffman Foundation, colleges and universities, and large industry conferences. As a public speaker, Stephen has shared the stage with other thought leaders from Google, YouTube, Twitter, IBM, Dell, PepsiCo, Intuit, Omnicom, Travelocity, AOL/HuffingtonPost, Reddit, etc.

Following his presentation on Social Media Strategies at the Digital Media Summit in Dallas in December 2012, @StephenMonaco trended as the 7th most mentioned name on Twitter.

In addition to his blog and contributing to the American Marketing Association's "Marketing Thought Leaders" he has written the columns "If You Mean Business" and "Show Me What's Next." His article on social media strategy and listening platforms, "Effective Strategies and Knowledge-Driven Decisions Increase ROI" was syndicated and appeared in a number of publications including Business Week. Monaco has been a contributing author for Marketing Daily, iMedia Connection, MarketingProfs, SCORE, B2B Marketing, Pragmatic Marketing, Convince & Convert, Soshable, Idea Mensch, 12 Manage - The Executive Fast Track, Business 2 Community, among others.

Stephen Monaco has been quoted in The Los Angeles Times, The Kansas City Business Journal, PC Magazine, and InfoWorld, just to name a few...

He hosted the weekly one-hour talk radio program, "Rockin' Marketing and Social Media with Stephen Monaco" on the Everything Talk Radio Network.

Stephen has been a special guest of the "Panel of Pundits" on the "Silicon Spin" television program hosted by John C. Dvorak, and has been an on-air guest with Rick Dees on the internationally syndicated radio program, "Rick Dees and the Weekly Top 40."

Monaco earned his MBA from the University of Wales - Cardiff, United Kingdom with an emphasis in Marketing and eBusiness. The topic of his Masters Dissertation was an analysis of the impact of the Internet and social media on mass media. Social media marketing is an area Monaco has been researching independently since 1997.

In his early career prior to joining the start-up Datastorm Technologies, Monaco held positions in marketing at Warner Bros. Television - International TV Distribution in Burbank, California, and the corporate communications firm Creative Communications Group in Dallas, Texas.

Due to his intellectual curiosity and insatiable thirst for knowledge, Stephen is a voracious reader of non-fiction. Stephen is particularly interested in tracking trends where business, technology, and digital media intersect with pop culture. Rock concerts are his favorite form of live entertainment. Monaco is a "classic rock" music trivia buff. His favorite spectator sports are football and basketball; both collegiate and professional.
