Okay, it's time for my statement. Some of you will get this twice, but it's better than not at all.
The Atlantic City gaming industry has been shut down. Thing about that for a sec.
You know that I devoted many years to Fed, state, county and local OEM, (CD), departments. Yes, I was there for both of the 100-year and the 500-year floods in Essex, Somerset and Warren counties, not to mention a mess of minor, (and one unbelievably life-changing MAJOR), disasters and debacles.
IF you are in a "voluntary evacuation zone", and you HAVE the option of where you want to go, BE READY. NOW. "Voluntary" becomes "MANDATORY" with the stroke of a pen, so to speak. In that case, you may not be given an option...especially if the where YOU had planned to go is on the other side of CLOSED roads. You WILL, at that point, be consigned to a shelter. And I say WILL. I was THERE, fully deputized, evacuating people, FORCIBLY, from their homes in Belvidere. I was THERE, ARMED, keeping people OUT of Belvidere and Watchung. When they sign that order, ALL of YOUR plans go pretty much out the window.
PREPARE, (even if you end up not needing it...), a bag. Your necessary medication, IN THEIR ORIGINAL BOTTLES. Some under-clothing, some APPROPRIATE clothing...(shelters are NOT "fashion shows"!). as well as some niceties...a deck of cards, WATER, some of your favorite candy...(I KNOW you have some stashed where they can't find it!)...you get the point. FILL your car with gas. CHECK the oil. CHECK the coolant....(If you end up in a traffic jam, THAT could become VERY important!). PUT your "stuff" IN the car if you suspect that you MIGHT be evac'd. TAKE a blanket or two, as well as a pillow. SECURE your valuables and firearms. If you're leaving, even at the last minute, TAKE them with you.
CHARGE your laptop and put the charger in your bag. Same goes for your phone. DON'T forget the CHARGERS!
IN your home, put anything important UPSTAIRS. TODAY. You can bring it back down when it's over, but isn't that BETTER than LOSING it?
They are, in the moment of evacuation, "LESS than PLEASANT". DO YOUR PART in advance.
Oh...prayer NEVER hurts...
