I hate Williamsburg & hipsters, but I really like this place...and would recommend it to movie lovers or non-hipsters alike. Just make sure have the stomach to put up with the stench of pretentiousness, organic food farts, hearing people use the words like and literally 20+ times in a sentence, & any other whiny 1st world problems a place like Williamsburg might emit. Other than that, the place is great!

Giving a fun spin on dinner-and-a-movie, this place makes for a great date night! Once you're settled into your seat, a waiter will come around and check your tickets (which will run you about $11 each), set you up with menus, grab your order, and discreetly drop off your food. Their menu includes staple movie munchies like popcorn, but you can also get something more substantial like a burger, and they always include a few specials inspired by whatever movies they're showing. On that note, the types of movies they feature generally skew indie, so if you're more into big blockbusters this might not be the place for you. They do a lot of special screenings of vintage movies, sometimes with live music accompanying, so their schedule is always worth a look!

I don't know where else you can go where they will show you a custom-edited montage of Bruce Willis's finest film moments before watching an indie BW-JGL film (Looper) while drinking a themed cocktail. This is one of my favorite places to see movies. Their selection of movies is great, and they do fun food+movie events as well as midnight-only and brunch-only movies. Something for everyone, seriously. Plus the bar downstairs is great. The bartender once let me pick which record to play and I ended up picking the Shellac album she reserves to get everyone out of the bar at last call. It was 8pm but she still played it for me.

The only place in NYC I know of where you can eat a meal and drink a beer while you watch a movie. Their movie selection is unique as well: they show cult classics along with the new stuff. Make sure to buy your tickets early, as it isn't very large and fills up quickly.

Like a smaller version of L.A.'s Arclight Cinemas, Nitehawk is a movie theater that lets you order full meals and cocktails right at your seats. I'd been wanting to visit here forever, ever since I heard about their weekly Spoons, Toons and Booze marathon that makes you feel like you've been transported to your cereal-eating, 8-year-old self on a Saturday morning, except you're legally fit to drink. But mostly I love that they play films that you're unlikely to find anywhere else in the city and plan special, unique menus around them! I was invited here for a private screening and dinner and was treated to immaculate service. The theater is small but intimate, perfect for special events, but the seats are large and spacious, and every chair has its own pad and pencil for you to write down your order for your server to pick up while the film is playing. Don't pass up their truffle popcorn! Can't wait to see what their screening this upcoming Halloween: should be a blast!
