Papaya King has amazing Pina Coladas, which are my favorite. They have all fresh drinks and there is a line out the door. It's a classic NY experience 40 years + and mighty tasty. The hot dogs are the name of the game here and you can get them with the works for the same low price. Cheapest place in town to have lunch. Don't plan to sit there though. There is no room.

Update: Loved it, not in love with it! I'm guessing new ownership took over and the place is no longer the same. The prices have increased and are no longer round dollar ($2 dog, $5 special) so get ready for a fistful of change. And what used to be lighting fast service is now extra slow. It seems like every day a new fried carnival type treat is being added to the menu, the newest fried oreos. What I loved about this place is slowly dying. I would like to say the dogs were still the same but the last two times the service was too slow. "Two well with" - (Two hot dogs well done with sauerkraut) and a papaya drink - The best and quickest lunch in NYC. The now have a bunch of different combinations of toppings to try include a dog wrapped in bacon, but the classic dog is still the shining star here still. Tip to newbies, have your cash ready and move to any of the open doors. There are two registers and the line is usually out of the door becuase inside is about 18" wide. The line moves faster then a express 6 train and worth every second.

Wow... It's almost unbelievable that this restaurant is still here after over 40 plus years. I would take the #6 from the Bronx back in the late 60's, early 70's late nights to get some great hot dogs and either a Papaya drink or Pina colada. I also remember the old salsa dance club in the area called "El Corso" during the early 70's. It was a nice place. Great memories.

THE BEST HOT DOG STAND IN NEW YORK.......The first place I have the taxi stop on the way to Manhattan from the airport is Papaya King on 86th & Third Avenue. I pick up 3 hot dogs (no toppings) and eat 2 in the back of the cab on the way home........+ 1 for Dale to eat at home. Truth be told, Grey's on Broadway and 72nd St. runs a mighty close second.

Small store front but they move orders out like the wind! Great place for a quick bite to eat in a New York minute. They have a lot of different options for hot dog toppings and great lemonade to wash it all down with. It does look a bit overwhelming if you're there for the first time because there are so many options to try but you can see most menu items from a far so you're not blocking the line.

I took a large group of finicky teenagers to Papaya King, and everyone loved the food. The dogs were tasty and the price was crazy cheap for the amount of food we got. The papaya juice was good, but I think I don't like papaya juice. (The foamy head was a little offputting for me personally.) Definitely going back - with or without kids! :)
