The host families provide room and board, transportation to school and school activities, and will receive a monthly stipend from the international students’ families.

These students have met the admission standards and have good English skills. If you are interested in knowing more about being a host family, please contact Susie Steed at 771-2203 or ssteed@wcsks.com.

WCS Students Honored as National Merit Scholarship Finalists

Wichita Collegiate students Carolyn Lewelling and Abigail Louis are among approximately 15,000 students nationwide to be named a 2014 National Merit Scholarship Finalist.

The 2013-2014 school year is the 59th year of the prestigious program, which honors academically talented high school seniors and lets them compete for 8,000 National Merit Scholarship awards worth more than $35 million. The awards will be announced this spring.

To become a National Merit Finalist, students must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the school principal, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier qualifying performance.

More than 1.5 million high school juniors in over 22,000 high schools nationwide entered the 2014 National Merit Program by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

National Merit Finalists will compete for one of 2,500 National Merit $2,500 scholarships. 2014 Merit Scholarship winners will be announced between April-July 2014. They will join more than 300,000 other distinguished students who have earned the National Merit Scholar title.
