Help out an amazing teen and earn ASHFALL-related swag!
This is eighteen-year-old Karla Fernandez: She's a senior at Ben Davis High School. She's in the top 5% of her class academically, with a GPA in the A+ range. She's also the the president of her class, a volunteer for numerous organizations, and holds down a part-time job.

Eighty two gazillion people have shared articles with me over the last couple of days that suggest Yellowstone is about to erupt. One of the worst of them comes with an absolutely ridiculous “threat map.” I have no idea where they got this thing, but I suspect squatting was involved.

Strange but wonderful news: the ASHFALL trilogy has sold in Vietnam. My Vietnamese publisher will be Hoa Hoc Tro. I'm trying to wrap my head around the idea of being read in a language I don't know and country I've never visited.

Hi there,

I"m a writer for nymag.com, and I'm looking into a post about men who read YA. I feel like a lot has been written about adults who read YA, but usually with a heavy focus on the women, so I'm curious about the adult guys!

It seems like, anecdotally speaking, that more women than men ready YA. Do you think that's true? And if so, why might that be? You had some thoughtful things to say about why teen boys don't read YA, so I thought I'd ask you about men & YA! http://mikemullin.blogspot.com/2011/06/why-dont-more-boys-read-ya.html

My work email is melissa.dahl@nymag.com. Would love to hear from you tonight or tomorrow morning. Thanks!

Melissa

Tomorrow morning I'm speaking at a high school that starts classes at 7:15 a.m. I'm not going to mention the school's name, because the librarians organizing the visit are two of my all-time favorite people in the world, and the ridiculous start time isn't their fault.

Guardhouse Security was very professional. They listened carefully to what we needed and found ways to make it happen. Their installers were helpful, courteous and efficient. I've use three different security system providers in the last fifteen years or so, and so far Guardhouse is by far and away the best.

Their mortgage division is terrible. Waited to the last minute to spring a bunch of spurious charges on us, when they knew we were in no position to back out and start the process over with another lender. I would not use them again.

We stayed there last year. Lately we found out that their credit card database was hacked--no surprise there, it's happening to lots of companies lately. But they didn't even notice the hack for 8 months! One star for incompetent IT.
