Great atmosphere tucked away in the heart of midtown. Exposed ceilings, repurposed wood and urban tones. The bar is strong with great mixed drinks and cordial staff. Nice beats in Saturday nite too

I really enjoyed visiting sparrow bar and Cookshop. Monica Pope never stops amazing me with her ability to innovate throughout the years. The food was delicious and the staff was amazing. I moved out of Houston for a few years and Tafia's used to be one of my favorite places. I moved back a couple of months ago and was very surprised when I visited what used to be Tafia's and is now Sparro Bar and Cookshop. I was scared for a minute when I arrived thinking that Tafia's had gone out of business but it turns out she just remodeled and changed things around. The place looks amazing. The drinks are just exotic and tasty, just like Tafia's used to be. They make drinks you will not find elsewhere. I definitely recommend it to everyone. I have a new favorite place!!

I actually had the opportunity to meet Madeline POPE who cooked for President Barack Obama and Beyonce! It was a once in a lifetime moment. We had the opportunity to cook with her a learn her recipes. Our group was in charge of making the quinoa which was fairly easy but something about the freshness of the ingredients took it to another level. If you are there, tried the chickpeas fries, they are wonderful!!!

I love Chef Pope.. she could serve me anything and I would eat it! But at Sparrow she didn't have to do that.. lite bites and drinks were stellar. The first floor dining area is quaint and intimate. I would say if you are with a large group make reservations, most of the tables are 4 tops so they will have to push tables together to accommodate large groups. Must Try Items: TRIO OF DIPS: red bell pepper puree, hummus, spicy black bean with grilled lavender-black pepper pizette, aleppo, "DATE WITH A PIG": medjool date, chorizo, bacon, chermoula, " CHICK" FRIES: Indian salt, red curry catsup. You must try the chick fires they were amazing and tasted just like french fries but healthier! If Chef is there have her pick a cocktail for you or assist with your selection.. she's great at that and I guarantee you won't regret her help as she personally creates the cocktails herself and teaches each recipe to her bartenders. Love Chef Monica Pope! Sparrow has a private lot that is valet only -- it's complimentary. There is street parking available on the side street as well!

I've come both for lunch and once for dinner and it's been okay. The burger was good but not as life changing as some people had made it out to be. When we came for dinner we actually didn't stay for a full meal. We ordered the dates as an appetizer and they were just so tiny, good, but tiny and the drinks were also pretty small. I understand that you pay more for quality but didn't feel like it met expectations. The outdoor patio design is quite nice though! Small, but very quaint and don't notice being so close to a road.

I have to say, the side dishes here are absolutely amazing! If I was a non-meat eater (different than a vegetarian), I would come here just for the sides. Kind of like a person that goes to Fogo de Chao for the salad bar:) The macaroni and cheese is rich and creamy, the mashed potatoes are whipped to a perfect fluff and seasoned to the place just after bland, but right before...dang how much butter is in here? The Brussels sprouts have been added to my "last meal" wish list. I have tried for years to master Brussels sprouts with balsamic vinaigrette and haven't even managed to get mine close to Cook's. Sadly, I'm a meat-eater, and I wasn't really impressed with the main. I ordered the veal cheek and was pretty pumped about it. My first bite was perfection - it was tender, flavorful and nearly melted in my mouth. The following bites were just as pleasing to my tongue. Unfortunately, about halfway in, I noticed a hint of licorice. Was it fennel I was tasting? I'm pretty sure that's exactly what it was because my interest suddenly dissipated, and I was left to satiate my hunger with the side dishes in the middle of the table. I believe they have burger night on Tuesdays and I may pop back in for a good ol' traditional meal.

I would give it 0 stars if i could. The beef burger tastes like sweaty testicles. Nastiest burger I've ever tried, absolutely disgusting. It's mind boggling to me that the houston chronicle gave this place an A grade.

My wife and I have been to Sparrow a lot over the last few years and it has really been consistently excellent. We enjoy sitting at the communal table or at the bar and tasting all the delicious cocktails while waiting for our food. This last visit was a little more exceptional. We casually stopped by around 2pm on a Saturday for a snack. Not only did we have some great patio weather but we were impressed with the terrific happy hour menu. Needless to say it quickly went from a snack to a full meal. We got the burger, which I am embarrassed to say is the only main dish I've ever gotten at Sparrow (although we've ordered just about every appetizer they have and they're all great). I can't get enough of it! My wife and I hate onions and we even love the burger with the little crispy onions on top. Make sure to get goat cheese on there too. My only complaint is that our stay was brief since we weren't really planning on coming by in the first place, it was just on our way to the next stop. I definitely suggest planning out a Saturday afternoon on their patio sometime it's great!!!
