Don't waste your time on petitions to "Abolish the Electoral College"...this is how you can actually help ensure future Presidents are elected by popular vote:

Brilliant, funny but sobering presentation by fellow Googler +Tanya Reilly on "Ten Things That Will Try To Make You Leave Technical Jobs", along with practical tips for women in tech.

Please share widely; this is a must-read not just for women but also for men (so we can stop doing a bunch of this stupid s***!).

I agree 100% with this...I also use ridesharing services frequently but oppose Uber's shortsighted attempt to derail important safety restrictions on San Francisco's Market Street.

This is probably the best explainer of (U.S. Navy) submarine terms I've seen. Brings me back!

Doug Muder's "Weekly Sift" has this great explainer for why Democrats can't get more Americans to vote for them, despite having policies that are overwhelmingly more popular than the increasingly-extreme Republicans: http://weeklysift.com/2014/11/10/republicans-have-a-story-to-tell-were-stuck-with-facts/

I think his thesis (that Republicans have a compelling story to tell, and the Democrats don't) explains this paradox better than those proposed by George Lakoff, Thomas Frank, or any other political thinker. Alas, Muder doesn't (yet) propose any answers/solutions.

Also fascinating is Muder's explanation for how something small like infrastructure maintenance can explain why Ferguson, Missouri is the way it is: http://weeklysift.com/2014/09/15/infrastructure-suburbs-and-the-long-descent-to-ferguson/

(Thanks to to +Yonatan Zunger's always informative feed, which first turned me on to the Weekly Sift.)

Thought-provoking article comparing the privileges that come with being White (in which I include myself, as a phenotypically White person despite being half-Asian) with the privileges of being a car driver on most U.S. roads.  Realizing how the (transportation) System is hard for bicyclists can help us understand how the (larger) System is hard for people of color. #race   #bicycling
