It's not so much WP dev as it is general PHP dev, but I have the opportunity this week to present one of my favorite talks to NomandPHP. It's a unique blend of genetic algorithms and parallel processing in PHP => breeding virtual monkeys to type Shakespeare :-)

All-in-all, it's a fun topic that shows just how powerful our language of choice really is. Most of the concepts can help elevate WordPress development as well; particularly if you work with WP_CLI or data migrations.

Care to join the fun?

The WordPress community has some serious issues when it comes to ethics and behavior in public - particularly at WordCamps. Lately, the conversation has taken a serious turn towards a focus on sexism in the community. I understand the emphasis here, but I want to make it very clear that these behavior issues (and the resulting discomfort they create) are not limited to one gender.  The misplaced focus here has yielded some interesting, but equally misguided proposed solutions for addressing the issue.  Unfortunately, the issue they address isn't really the issue at hand.
