8 REASONS WHY YOUR DOG IS NOT A HOME SECURITY SYSTEM
If you’ve been considering getting a Rottweiler or German Shepherd to protect your home, you need to reconsider. While dogs are certainly beneficial, both for companionship and protection, they are not a viable replacement for a monitored home security system installed in your home. If you aren’t convinced, we have outlined eight reasons why your dog does not count as your main method of home security.

1. Your dog could harm a non-intruder.
If your dog is an aggressive breed and trained to attack, you run the risk of your dog harming someone who is not an intruder. You don’t want to come home after a long day at work and get attacked by your pet, or have a friend get bit by your pup. Dog bites are unfortunate accidents and can cause a lot of strain on you, both physically and financially.

2. A burglar could harm your dog.
Every year, hundreds of dogs are injured or killed while protecting their homes from an intruder. Sometimes getting past a dog is the only thing a burglar needs to do, and he may do whatever is necessary to get a dog out of the way, resorting to violent measures if needed.

3. Your dog can be stolen.
In some cases, the burglar may steal your dog, particularly if he thinks he can sell it at a high market price. Sometimes a burglar may even specifically target a rare breed, and that could be the only thing stolen from you. This is particularly easy when the dog is left in the backyard or does not stand up to the burglar.

4. Your dog may be scared into a corner.
Not all breeds stand up to intruders, and even some that bark at first may back down and cower in a corner when pursued. If your dog is your only form of home security, an intruder may have little to no problem getting past your dog and into your home.

5. A security system stays in the house.
If you’ve taken your dog on a walk, to the park, or even on vacation, and he’s the only form of security you have in your home, you’ve left your home vulnerable. Once installed, a home security system doesn’t go anywhere, and you can enable it with the touch of a button on your way out.

6. A monitored home security system reacts in an emergency.
While your dog may alert you or your neighbors that something is wrong, it can’t alert the appropriate emergency services. A monitored home security system notifies your monitoring company, which can then notify the police or other authorities you need in that particular situation.

7. Your dog doesn’t provide video monitoring.
If you add motion detectors and video cameras to your home security system, you can see what’s happening in your home from anywhere, and even possibly record a burglary. This will help the police track down the bad guys and using your mobile device to check in on your video feed can give you peace of mind that everything is OK at home when you’re away.

8. Dogs don’t provide discounts on home insurance premiums.
Many home insurance companies offer discounts on your monthly rate when you install monitored home security systems. So, not only do you have help protecting your home when you have a monitored security system, but you can save up to 20 percent on your home insurance premium. This discount does not apply when your main method of home security is a dog. In fact, depending on the breed, your dog could potentially raise your home insurance rates.

Don’t get us wrong – we love dogs. But we know they aren’t meant to be a main source of home security protection. To find the right monitoring service for your home, call Freedom Alarm & Security today @(636)856-8163
