Emilio Aguinaldo (March 22, 1869 - Feb. 6, 1964) first president of the Philippine republic & Asia's first democratic republic.

"Aguinaldo was pilloried and maligned, buy he kept his silence in quiet dignity. And this he knew - that while his body suffered, his cause triumphed. For he moulded his hands and watered with his blood the First Republic established by a brown people." (fmr president F. Marcos at Aguinaldo's necrological rites 1964)

Hundreds of trees were cut down by DPWH contractors last night & hundreds more are marked for cutting along about 50 kilometers in Pangasinan, Philippines. Many are half-a-century old at least mostly Philippine Mahogany & Accacia & have been sold as crude chopping boards & stools. Please pass #saveroadsidetrees before beauty, air, & shade are totally destroyed by greed & apathy.

Super Typhoon Haiyan Devastates The Philippines - 26 photos - http://theatln.tc/19e61dx - Officials are now estimating that as many as 10,000 deaths may have been caused in the Philippines by the landfall of one of the most powerful storms on record, Super Typhoon Haiyan. WInd gusts were measured up to 195 mph, and the storm's reach extended over a thousand miles as it approached the Philippines last Friday. The extent of the devastation is still being assessed by humanitarian groups, but all measures so far indicate a historic level of damage, requiring millions in aid and years for recovery.
