About ten years ago there was a rumour. If you want to get things done, and if you want to get them done fast, go for PHP. Yes, it's been like a badly done perl ripoff with even worse object orien...

I've never experienced a whiteboard interview, but I'm pretty sure I'd walk out if I did. At Squidoo, every single person we hire works for us first as a contractor. This way we're actually able to make our time together productive.
Jim is a great chef. He's too modest to say that about himself, but he's worked either as head chef or assistant head chef at a number of restaurants. Everywhere he's worked he's been ...

That's a much more natural way to initiate a relationship.

I've had my share of corporate interviews in the past and I have to say that I feel the same. If someone asked me to 'sell them a pen' or something equally patronising like a whiteboard interview then I pull out of the process for sure.

As a huge Seth Godin fan, I have to say it must be a real privilege for you to work with a man of his intellect.

Anyone notice that Google+ has really quieted down in the past few days?

It toop me 45 minutes to completely integrate Stripe into a new app I'm building. So, so easy. If I could buy stock in them now, I would.
Patrick and John Collison, brothers in their early twenties from Limerick, Ireland, have a decidedly bold mission: to become the next PayPal.

Believe in the power of statistics? This article just might shake your confidence. We really have no clue what we're doing with all those numbers.
It is a commonplace of scientific discussion that correlation does not imply causation. Business Week recently ran an spoof article pointing out some amusing examples of the dangers of inferring corre...

Wondering why TechCrunch was completely silent on the unfavorable mergers of Lijit and Ning. Both seem like big news to me, considering how much money was poured into them. You would never know about it through TechCrunch.

Everyone worries about Arrington's conflicts of interest. Should we be more concerned about high profile investors' abilities to control the TC news cycle?

So the big news is that Michael Arrington wants to buy TechCrunch back from Aol. He blames the current problems on integration with Huffington Post. But last week, the problem was that he was launching a venture fund with Aol which resulted in a journalistic conflict of interest at TechCrunch.

I don't get it. What does that have to do with HuffPo?

As someone who views his current role as largely operational, this is something I struggle with. Should I be thinking up new products instead of fighting spam or making pages load faster? Does it matter if there are other people in an organization with that role, or are we all responsible for creativity in products?

Great find, Gil. Thanks for sharing! I've reshared and tagged you.

As to your questions, I think it's a juggling act. "You" have to maintain the house and keep entropy at bay while you renovate it. You can outsource the unpleasant stuff, but it still has to get done. Percentage that goes to each depends on what you want. What do you find yourself doing most (over a span of representative time)? Probably says a lot about what you want and where your company is going, re: maintenance v. innovation.

Last spring in the gym I pulled a muscle in my back. I couldn't do any kind of exercise for over a month, and the problem never went away completely. It would flare up anytime I did certain movements. I visited a couple different chiropractors and massage therapists but nothing helped. Recently I decided to give chiropractic care another shot, and I chose All American because they offer a number of different treatment options that I hadn't tried before. It's been only a few weeks since treatment started, and the difference is night and day. I'm mobile, functional, and the problem no longer flares up. If you've tried other chiropractors before but not been wowed. I'd recommend giving All American a chance. What I like the most is that the staff take the time to learn and most importantly remember the details of your injury. Every time I come in, they laser in on the problem and bring it one step closer to recovery. They walk me through various mobility exercises and educate me on how to avoid injury in the future. They accepted my insurance and I've never had to wait more than a couple minutes. Office hours are reasonable. All in all, a great experience.
