"... ACTIVIST TEACHERS must struggle with themselves and each other to open the world with all its complexity to their students.... teachers must also LEARN from their STUDENTS. The difference and borders of each of our identities CONNECT us to each other, more than they sever. So the ENTERPRISE here is to forge INFORMED, self-reflexive solidarity among ourselves.... Our minds must be ready to move as CAPITAL is, to trace its paths and to IMAGINE alternative destinations." (Feminism without borders. Under Western Eyes Revisited., Mohanty, page 250-251, emphasis mine)

Amyaz_M: Last week's show features Khue from Vietnam but also @savagerasta "shout-out" to the troubled world. Listen 🎧 https://t.co/Dbhsf9fB0f
A very eclectic show that begins with Yorgun's "shout-out of support" to our global brotherhood that is reeling from the extremism of the moment. With Magic System, Diams, Nancy Ajram, Salif Keita and of course the iconic Bob Marley's "War". Later Khue Hoang '17 - one of the student ambassadors at the College of Wooster guest selects. Khue plays songs that remind her of home inspired by the fact that many international students cannot return for ...

transGlobal groove collective for October 4, 2015
Mixcloud
I rediscovered my first iPod. It contained many songs I used to listen to a while back and also play a couple of years into my time here in Wooster - Tinariwen, Cigano D'Ouro, Sara Tavares, Les Nubians, Thione Seck, Gigi, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, and so on. I also play new music from FKA Twigs and what I like to call Diasporic African - Victor Taiwo, Bixiga 70, Just a Band and Miles from Kinshasha.

Two legendary musicians left us this week. This show is in their memory. Prince gave us love, contemplation, and funk from the "Vault". Wemba gave us the sweetest voice, Rhumba-Rock and “La Sape”. We merge their music with Ernest Ranglin, Jovens do Prenda, Massive Attack, and some vintage Korean "Guitar Boogie" from Yoon il Loh and Ziad Rahbani.

We explore African "music" historically. Orientalist recordings by the Deutsche Gramophone from the 1920's pepper the selection from Songhai, Omar Pene, Salif Keita, Oum Khoultum, Papa Wemba, Bebe Manga, Ildo Lobo, Mar Seck, and Zezex. Its eclectic!

We feature "guest selector" Nissa Usman from Wooster's Ambassadors Program. She introduces us to Indonesian Jazz - Indonesian Jazz All Stars, Indra Lesmana and Bubi Chen to name a few names in this genre. We also play some vintage Bebo Valdes mixed in with another record we found this weekend with the amazing Wadi El Safi - recorded in the 1950's.
