Attention life #Scientists  who work with #antibodies : use this form to nominate antibodies for independent validation (for free!) on antibodies-online.com! They're doing this in conjunction with the great folks at Science Exchange! (HT +Elizabeth Iorns)

TEDMED Great Challenges hangouts are moving to a new time: Tuesdays at noon EST!

Jessica Richmond’s uBiome project asks “citizen scientists” to submit body samples so the company can analyze their microbiomes. Max Little’s Patient Voice Analysis asks PatientsLikeMe members to record their voices and experiences to help monitor the progression of Parkinson’s Disease. Jared Heyman’s CrowdMed asks the wisdom of many “medical detectives” to help diagnose mysterious symptoms. Elizabeth Iorn’s Science Exchange helps researchers hire labs to conduct and reproduce studies.

Is crowdsourcing joining the time-hallowed clinical trial as a leading research method?  The “human computing power” of results from thousands of people may be more effective and cheaper than traditional research. Will lack of standards hamper progress? And what about reproducibility? Can more of us conduct our own valid studies, hiring others or accessing existing data?

“Every health field from studying chronic diseases to global health has a potential need for human computing power that crowdsourcing could fill to accelerate research.” Raina Merchant, MD, Director of the Social Media Lab at the Penn Medicine Center for Health Care Innovation

Join us for a discussion on medical innovation, crowdsourcing, and more. Tag your questions on Twitter with #GreatChallenges , or post them here, and our panelists will tackle!

Our guests include:
Max Little, TEDMED Speaker and Creator of the Patient Voice Analysis project with PatientsLikeMe
Jared Heyman, Founding CEO of CrowdMed
Elizabeth Iorn, CEO of Science Exchange
Raina Merchant, Director of the Social Media Lab at the Penn Medicine Center for Health Care Innovation
Chileshe Nkonde-Price, Research Fellow at the Penn Social Media and Health Innovation Center and Staff Cardiologist at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center
This Hangout On Air is hosted by TEDMED. The live video broadcast will begin soon.

Breast Cancer Scientist and Entrepreneur
Introduction
I am the co-founder and CEO of Science Exchange, the online marketplace for science experiments. The mission of Science Exchange is to improve the efficiency of scientific research by making it easy for researchers to access resources and experimental expertise at any research institution. I have a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from the Institute of Cancer Research in London, and a Post Doctorate in Cancer Biology from the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine. My research has focused on identifying mechanisms of breast cancer development and progression. Based on my own experiences as a young investigator seeking core facility capabilities and collaborations outside my home university, I co-founded Science Exchange in 2011. I am the recipient of the 2012 Kauffman Foundation Emerging Entrepreneur Award, the Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research Young Investigator Award and I am a graduate of the Y Combinator Summer 2011 program.
