The Power Of Editing - Two shots - original and using Lightroom with Google's NIK collection, Color Efex Pro specifically - used the skylight filter and the detail enhancement options... WOW!

Thanks to all who wished me a Happy Birthday - it was a quiet day - and I did manage to sneak out for one good photo - here it is - sun set in the distance down the street I live on. Yes, done with the Nexus 6. Thanks!

Per request - here is the same spot - albeit looking quite different from the photo I referenced earlier - This was not taken with a smartphone, posted only as a reference. Picture #145 with my almost-new digital camera in 2002

Recently I've been doing a lot more photo sharing than I have in the past and there are several reasons for it. As a result, I've gotten a lot of feedback about how good my photos are. I wanted to thank all those who have given me feedback, instruction, suggestions, help over the years. The single biggest person in that area  Shawn Duren  I wouldn't be the photographer I am today, without his influence. There are many others - they know who they are - who I've shot with and gotten feedback from and I thank you all for that. Like any form of art - a lot of it has to do with practice and experience. I've been photographing since 2002 and my current primary camera is approaching 10,000 shots taken. My advice to any budding artist (photographers in particular) is to listen to others, gain experience and never stop trying new things. You don't get good overnight - you don't get great in a week and you don't get exceptional in a year, heck, 14 years in and I still have shots that make me go 'WOW! I can't believe I took that!' Every failure is a chance to learn. Mistakes are bound to happen and are natural- but you must learn from them to grow. Create your own art and show a path into your soul. Find a way to share that with others and use it to grow as a person.

I was joking +Joey Kelley ☺️ I'm always in librarian mode. When students talk to me and I hear a word they've made up I ask them, Is that a real word? That's my way to get them to use the dictionary and thesaurus.

Paul Thurott's strategy on backing up photos in the age of SmartPhones... Ironically - not all that different from mine:
https://www.thurrott.com/music-videos/67797/managing-photo-collection-smart-phone-age
For years, I managed digital photos much like digital music, replicating the collection across multiple devices and to the cloud to ensure that our precious memories were never lost. But in a recurring theme, smart phones have changed everything. And it's time to adapt to this change.

25 years ago, someone put this sticker on the side of a piece of railroad equipment. Its been purchased twice since, but, this sticker remains a reminder of a once-proud railroad now lost to time. Nexus 6, straightened, saturation and other color tweaks, watermark in Picasa on PC

Almost 14 years ago - I took my almost-brand-new digital camera out photographing trains for the first time. I happened to get over to Parker Street in Brewer, Maine. Today I grabbed this shot, also at Parker Street. The buildings have changed, the tracks have changed, the paper mill over 15 miles away is being sold for scrap and the trains that serviced it are now but a memory. All that remains to haul - contaminated dirt from an old Chemical plant and the scrap metal from the paper mill. Nexus 6 - Open Camera App - B&W with red filter, straightening, watermark, in Picasa on PC.

Do you have the old shot by chance? Be cool to see side by side.
