Tompkins Cortland Community College has a sustainable farming degree program. The students help work the School's transitional organic farm. (Transitional meaning they are using all organic seed and practices, but the certification process takes several years once you start using organic practices.) The farm manager runs a CSA (community supported agriculture) and a weekly on campus farm stand. Last year I was stopping at the farm stand weekly. This year I decided to become a CSA member.

Today's Tompkins Cortland Community College Organic Farm share was to select 9 items...

One item of heirloom tomatoes was 5 tomatoes (I selected 2 items worth of heirlooms)

One item of out of this world cherry tomatoes was 1 quart (I selected 2 items worth of cherry tomatoes)

To round out my selection this week, I added 10 carrots, a pint of new potatoes, a pint of beets, a quart of really funky beans, and as much basil as I wanted to cut from the green house...

Other items available included head lettuce, bags of mixed green, cabbage, hot peppers, cucumbers, zuchini, squash, pre cut basil ... and I think there was one other thing that I am just not remembering

ǂone heirloom and 1.5 quarts of cherry tomatoes have been eaten/shared with family. I also shared the basil and the beets with the family...

ǂǂ I will be making many many batches of pesto tomorrow...

ǂǂǂ my fridge smells really good right now...

ǂǂǂǂ this is for the "small" share... the deluxe share folks got to select 12 items.

Dolce, who has howled in anger and hissed his displeasure at all the other neighborhood cats who have wandered in, was not openly hostile towards One-Fang Frank. However, he did show signs of stress when Frank kitty was on my lap. I think Dolce is happy I reunited Frank with his people. This has not happened in a while: sweet snuggly Dolce on my lap and purring up a storm. Of course he joined me on my lap just as I was about to get up to use the facilities...

There's been a new lad in the hood these past two weeks. I noticed him a few times shortly after he arrived and then this past week he got friendly - as in wander into the apartment and immediately jump on my lap friendly. He didn't act like a stray and today I called the local vet to see if they could scan for a chip so i could find the lad's family.

The vet asked for a description, I gave it, black and white with one super sized fang on one side and no fang on the other. The vet mentioned that a client mentioned he'd inherited a cat that went missing the day after kitty moved to his new home and that my new friend fit the description. He lives not even a mile from me, but having escaped the day after he moved, he had no bearings on where to go. Happily he found me.

He is called Frank, but I called him Fang due to his single fang. A super sweet lad who Dolce didn't howl and hiss at. I hope he visits once he has gotten his bearings and knows where his house is.

Calling all arthropod people!
I found this crazy critter (dead unfortunately) in my sink under my dish pan today. I don't think I have ever seen anything quite like it. It either crawled in on its own, washed out of a bunch of store bought cilantro, came in with a clamshell of Kiwis, or in with a bunch of bananas. I'd love an ID if anyone knows what manner of beastie I was hosting.

I live in upstate NY
mystery "monster" is 2.5 - 3 cm long not including antennae or hind legs.
Last two pairs of legs are definitely many time longer than all the other pairs.
