What your dashboard gauges and warning lights are really indicating ?
Your next loading dock is 45 minutes away. With a quick glance at the dashboard, you notice the fuel level is low, and the tire inflation light is on. Should you pull over to fuel up and check out the problem or is it safe to continue driving? While some dashboard lights and instruments indicate emergency situations, others notify the driver of issues that could be concerning if they aren’t serviced soon. To keep trucks in normal operating condition, drivers should understand the function of each panel control so they can detect and call in any complications.

4 Common Diesel Engine Problem

Diesel engines are similar, but simpler then gasoline engines. First, air is allowed into the cylinder and the piston compresses it—but much more than in a gasoline engine. In a gasoline engine, the fuel-air mixture is compressed to about a tenth of its original volume. But in a diesel engine, the air is compressed by anything from 14 to 25 times. If you've ever pumped up a bicycle tire, you'll have felt the pump getting hotter in your hands the longer you used it. That's because compressing a gas generates heat. Imagine, then, how much heat is generated by forcing air into 14–25 times less space than it normally takes up. So much heat, as it happens, that the air gets really ...

Your trailer axles are so important to pay attention to. If they are over stressed, out of alignment, rusted, or just passed their prime in age you could have big problems.

Axles can cause bad tire wear, bad bearing wear and bad suspension wear. And you may not even know they are.

What you should know about DEF (diesel exhaust fluid)?
For many years, owners of three-quarter and one-ton pickup trucks enjoyed the fact that there was no smog equipment on their trucks. But in 2008 the EPA required diesel particulate filters on all three-quarter-ton and larger trucks, and required biannual smog tests that included a thorough visual inspection to make sure all the parts were still on the truck. In 2010 ...

What is DPF ???
Every truck manufactured with a 2007 and later diesel engine is equipped with a diesel particulate filter. Many bus fleets started using them in 2005. There are something like 2 million DPFs, as they're called, in North America already.

Soon, on a phased-in program, every truck in California will also have to have a DPF, retrofitted to comply with California's mandate to reduce particulate emissions and their perceived health hazard. Other states are expected to follow California's lead.

!!! How to Diagnose Problems with Your Exhaust System !!!
Exhaust system is a tricky thing which replace often costs a lot of money. Fixing of a problem with your exhaust system when it just appears is much less expensive than waiting for the broken exhaust to cause further problems elsewhere in the engine. The exhaust is a vital part of the truck’s internal workings. It not only reduce the noise of your engine, it also makes sure that the fumes generated from burning petrol are kept away from the passenger cabin. More so, it ensures the smooth running of the engine, maintains maximum fuel efficiency and reduces the quantity of harmful emissions generated by the truck.

All truck fleets need to maintain their vehicles and equipment in order to provide safe, efficient and reliable performance.

The best way to achieve this is with a preventive maintenance (PM) program that consists of scheduled servicing, inspections and vehicle repairs. Such a program will help you to:

- Promote vehicle reliability by preventing potential problems.

- Maximize fleet uptime by decreasing downtime due to breakdowns.

- Lower operating costs by reducing the number of road calls and the high cost of unplanned maintenance.

- Ensure operational and operator safety, which helps with driver morale because when vehicles are kept in top condition, drivers are more likely to handle the equipment with care.

- Increase resale value.

- Enhance the fleet’s/company’s image with clean, well-maintained vehicles.

Furthermore, breakdowns from lack of PM tend to occur when least expected and possibly when the vehicle is needed most. Vehicles may become unsafe due to lack of PM or repair, and proper maintenance can help prevent litigation from negligence should faulty brakes, tires, steering or other vehicle malfunctions result in a vehicle accident.

Alpha Fleet Service Preventive Maintenance Program is one of the best in it Tacoma/Seattle region. If you are interested in feel free to call us 253-231-5500.
