Marysia from ‪#‎Singapore‬ shares with us a demo of Crow to Eka Pada Bakasana as well as some thoughts on ‪#‎yoga‬, family and living abroad.
“ Growing stronger is choice and a daily practice. It happens when we meet the edge of our comfort zone and then decide to hang tough a little longer.
Six months ago I moved to Singapore from Santa Monica. California is full of my loved ones, people who have known me forever. With my old crew connection is easy because we enforce each other’s beliefs. We have similar values and lifestyles.
Living in Singapore is challenging and amazing because I must expand my worldview to create fulfilling relationships. I step beyond my comfort zone and relinquish what I know to be true in hopes of connecting. It isn’t always comfortable but once I pass the uncomfortable layer, my world expands.
The ability to learn requires a willingness to surrender the ego and accept the validity of foreign truths. Our personal values do not necessarily change, but if we spent more energy connecting with, rather than imposing upon others the world could become a more peaceful place.
When trying this transition, assume the crow pose. From there, lift one knee off a tricep and draw the knee toward the center. Practice patiently holding the floating knee in the center. Remain focused and calm. Once you have that, extend the leg behind you. Keep the upper back rounded and extend the chest forward to lengthen the neck. The belly pulls to the spine and the femur bone of the lifted leg draws deeply into its socket. Work hard, play hard, rest. Enjoy the growth process.”
