I loved the play, Tribes! It was fantastically done here! It is not an enormously large theatre but a cozy, medium sized theatre which takes a large area of the block. The people are wonderfully helpful...They also had staff who knew sign language which i really appreciated. I suggest you get there early when you have your tickets since they had given mine away and we werent really late, which I was annoyed by because our seats were really excellent placed with a great view of the caption box.

Steppenwolf is easily one of my favorite theaters in Chicago. Its ensemble members are, in my opinion, some of the finest actors and directors in the country, as exhibited most recently by Tracy Letts' and Amy Morton's successes in television and on the New York stage. Beyond the talent, the shows Steppenwolf produces are consistently edgy, complex, and relevant. There isn't a bad seat in any of their spaces, and between student tickets ($15 a piece) and the Red Card for 20-somethings, Steppenwolf is great about getting young people to the theater.

I recently saw "The Mikado" at their garage theatre and I really enjoyed it! I don't generally have high expectations for plays. But, this one was very fun, upbeat, and interactive. Audience members were integrated into the play and encouraged to participate.

There's not a bad seat in the house here, it's a big theater but manages to feel very intimate. They have three spaces, the main floor, the upstairs and the garage -- the garage is more of a black box space, but the other two theaters are modern and well appointed. Clean bright lobby and they also have an extensive bar. They're across the street from some excellent places to each, you really can't go wrong on that stretch of Halsted.

As a theater it may be one of the best pure spaces in Chicago. Sight lines are wonderful, small enough to feel intimate, modern and well designed. My only complain is when the upstairs theater is in use the lobby can get a little crowded. Have seen some great shows on the mainstage, upstairs, and I love their incubator series in the garage - -I've discovered a couple of very interesting and exciting smaller theater companies in the garage. Parking is well priced and fairly easy to access until it's full and there are plenty of excellent restaurants right on Halsted for you to enjoy before or after (I like Balena).

This theatre is great! Every show that I have seen there has been amazing. The set is always very well thought and amazingly beautiful. The acting is above par. I always enjoy the quality of theatre that I see there because of how amazing it is. I try to go back as often as I can to experience the amazing thetre there!
