"Mr. Beard is very courageous when he gives freely so many references to other books, because if a student ever did look at another book, I am sure he would not return again to continue reading Mr. Beard."

Optical tables crowdsourcing: what anti-vibration optical table and supports do you use for interferometric and quantum optics experiments in your lab and why? We are choosing 3x1.5 m optical tables for our new labs and it seems that the top manufacturers specify almost same values of crucial parameters such as flatness, deflection and dumping. On the other hand, thermal properties (deflection caused by heating for example) are not specified at all. We are thinking of Newport RS4000 or TMC 784 tables but we are open to other suggestions.

A new study has found that there are just too many new studies.
Researchers at Helsinki’s Aalto University have participated in a study which has concluded that too many new research papers are published globally. They have concluded that scientific publications are losing their impact amidst a flood of new releases.
