Need some help, here!  -

Hello everyone.

I've found this pattern for a baby blanket. However I have to cast on over 200 sts, and I'd like to initially cast on enough stitches for the pattern just to give it a practise run on a smaller scale.

Gauge says 22sts to 30 rows in stocking stitch. Can I cast on 22sts and do the pattern?

If you cast on 40 sts then work the pattern as a practice on a small scale.  Hope this will be of assistance to you - Beautiful pattern as well

Hello everyone, currently trying to knit a zig zag blanket but am totally stuck!

It's a simple pattern to look at but my knitting isn't matching the instructions which are as follows:-

Zig Zag Stitch Pattern: Multiples of 16 + 1 Row 1: (right side): K1 * yo, k6, k3tog, k6, yo, k1; repeat from * across
Row 2: (wrong side): Purl

The first two rows are fine, when I come to do row 3 which is pattern row 1, I seem to be out by 1 stitch before I get to my k3tog. I have stitch markers all along the row where I am k3tog, and it was perfect on row 1. (I went backwards along the row and counted it, and all my markers are in the right place )

I still have the same amount of stitches, which is 105. Pattern says to seed stitch first and last 4 stitches of row.

Any help appreciated!

Hi Elisabeth,

What you are doing is more than likely correct, because you are increasing and decreasing stitches your rows are going to be off so as to give it the zig-zag effect.

When working row 3 your k3tog, the middle stitch is the stitch that was created when you purl into the k3tog of the previous row. Does that make sense??

What I suggest doing is casting on 21 sts, work 2 sts in garter on either side and the pattern repeats in between, that way you can work a gauge swatch as such of the pattern and see the way the pattern should look after maybe five repeats that way you can cast on the 105 sts and won't have to frog all of them.

I have just finished my 3 repeat of the pattern using 21sts and a subtle zig zag is forming.

I noticed your from the UK, I'm from Ireland so we are on the same timezone, so if you would like to schedule a hangout or anything let me know and I can talk you through the pattern if you would like.

Grr!! Definitely gonna have to accept that if I end up with an extra stitch I should just go with it and fudge it on the next row.

'Zilver' is no more after I tried to fix it and ended up with even more stitches than originally!

Defo time for a knitting holiday I think :-/

Hey everyone!
I really want to make this: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/zilver

Except I'm confused as it uses 4ply yarn and 5mm needles, but the pics show a quite close knitted garment.

Surely 5mm needles and 4ply would make for a very 'open' garment?
The lady I spoke to in my lys said I would need to recalculate the yardage if I wanted to do it on smaller needles to make a close knit garment. I was thinking of doing it in sock yarn.

How do I recalculate for 4ply yarn and smaller needles?

so I finished Saroyan.  No pics yet need to block it properly.  OH's hat is on the needles, nearly finished but panicking cos I don't know if I have enough yarn, and I need dpns for the decreases.  Last time I made a hat I nearly dislocated my thumbs.  I want to knit, but don't know what to make, ravelry isn't helping :/
