Stars Over The MatterhornZermatt, Switzerland
I shot this while I was teaching a "Lightroom and Landscapes" photography workshop last September with +Matt Anderson
and the fantastic Viewfinder Center for Photography. It was a fabulous class in an amazing place and for once jetlag was my friend. It was the jetlag that kept me up all night with nothing to do but shoot the stars and watch the moonlight move across the valley!Photography Tip:
The goal of Input Sharpening
in raw image processing software like +Adobe Photoshop Lightroom
is to add emphasis to all of the meaningful edges in your raw capture. The key to effective input sharpening is to enhance edge contrast in your original image without accentuating the digital capture noise.
When used properly, input sharpening and noise reduction balance each other out so that the resulting image appears as clean and as crisp as possible. This is a delicate balance and one that requires experimentation and a light touch. The careful mix of noise reduction and sharpening makes it possible to produce clean crisp images like this one even when shooting at very high ISO settings.
