New Food Photography for Flanigan's in Florida. Lighting is very critical for food photography. Soft light is needed but specular light is needed to show the shiny wetness of the meat.

Here is a video production I shot. It was for Palm Beach Symphony, they were performing at a charity fundraiser, playing along side students from Bak Middle School.

Product Photography | Woolf specializes in Product Illustration

Woolf Photography specializes in product photography and product illustration. The following is an example of product illustration.

Here is a new shot where I got to use an old technique that I learned way back in the day. It is called "painting with light." I can remember one of my instructors at RIT explain to me that I should look at photography like a blank canvas but it starts off as black instead of white. He said there should be nothing in the photo I do not want. If is is something I can't remove, I can chose to crop it out or not light it. Without light you have nothing. So with this perspective on product photography I bring in this technique. With this particular location I had limited control over the background and time. So I placed my subject in place, then placed my camera on tripod at the angle I wanted. I then move some props and adjusted some of background and tools. My camera: Hasselblad 3D31II with 120mm Macro. For lighting I used a single handheld flashlight. The set was completely dark. I opened the shutter on the camera and then used the flashlight like a paintbrush only adding light where I wanted. The result is a single exposure that doesn't require any special processing or digital manipulation. Product photography is only 1 area of photography I specialize in. Product illustration in photography is the most rewarding for me. The best part is that the creativity that flows during the shoot. It's all about the light. Without the light my canvas would be black. The most rewarding thing is creating an image from the darkness and having it mirror the vision that was in my mind. Then being able to share that vision with the rest of the world is the icing on the cake.
