50 Great Years

50 years ago Power Vac began an epic journey that would ultimately bring our company to the forefront of the Duct Cleaning and Abatement Industry. Power Vac first got its start in Brandon Manitoba in 1965 and moved to Winnipeg in 1968. We saw an opportunity to expand our services by adding Asbestos and Mould Abatement to our list of services.

At Power Vac , we celebrate our success every day. Our team of dedicated employees, value added partners, and loyal customers continue to provide us with opportunities to grow and thrive in the service industry.

As a company our core values remain the same today as they were back in 1965 . What still remains core to our values today is the value of our word , the value of our team and giving back to our industry.

Asbestos Warning for Homeowners
WorkSafeBC is urging homeowners living in houses built before 1990 to test their homes for asbestos before starting any renovation projects.

The agency has launched an awareness campaign in answer to research that indicates homeowners may not be aware of just how prevalent the material can be and how dangerous it is.

Asbestos is the number-one killer of workers in British Columbia, according to WorkSafeBC. In the ten years from 2006 to 2015, 584 B.C. workers died from diseases related to asbestos exposure.

What is vermiculite?

Vermiculite is a naturally occurring mica-like mineral that has the unusual property of expanding into worm-like accordion shaped pieces when heated.
The treated vermiculite becomes a light-weight, fire-resistant, absorbent, and odourless material. These properties allow vermiculite to be used to make numerous products, including attic insulation. Vermiculite insulation is a pebble like poured in material and is usually light brown to gold in colour. Sizes of vermiculite products range from very fine particles to large (course) pieces nearly an inch long. It is also common to find vermiculite as loose fill insulation in outside wall cavities including concrete block walls.”

A Few things to consider before your next Asbestos Removal Project
Asbestos is most likely to be found in homes and buildings constructed between approximately the 1930s through the 1970s. It was used in everything from roofing and siding to insulation, flooring and textured paints and painting compounds. In fact, some reports indicate it was used in over 3000 materials by the 1970s.
Paul Cochrane of IAQ Video Network offers some advise before getting ready for your next project.
