This #TBT we salute the Pink Flamingo, but not the famous lawn ornament. The 1961 Buick Flamingo had a very unique feature, a rotating front passenger seat where you could spin around and sit face to face and talk to the folks in the back. Would you like to have one in your car?

You don't see folded paper car maps as much as you used to but they are still around! Do you still use one for directions and if so, can you fold it back the way it was? (We think we already know the answer to the last part of that question!)

It’s another #TBT, we say happy 61st birthday to the U.S. Interstate System! It was in 1956 when President Eisenhower signed into law the Federal Highway Act, which allocated more than $30 billion for the construction of interstate highways. Today, there are over 45,000 miles of interstate across America. Did you use a few miles of it today?

Forget your cell phone. The greatest distractions to your driving may be coming from the car itself, specifically touch screens. So says a new study by AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, which studied 30 vehicle infotainment systems on 2017 models and ranked them. https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2017/10/05/aaa-distracted-driving-infotainment-study/734677001/

#TBT to the days of “soft Corinthian leather” and Ricardo Montalban as the spokesman for the Chrysler Cordoba. Did you know, “Corinthian leather” is not a real thing, but rather just a fancy marketing phrase?

Late for work? Don’t try to make up the time by speeding. You can’t beat the laws of physics! Here is why. Speed = distance divided by time. Let’s say two drivers are driving 100 miles.

Driver A drives 65 mph, driver B drives 75 mph.

Driver A: Time = 100 miles / 65 mph = 1.54 hours so 1.54 hours = 92 minutes
Driver B: Time = 100 miles / 75 mph = 1.33 hours so 1.33 hours = 80 minutes

Driver B beats driver A by only 12 minutes – and that’s traveling 100 miles. (Your commute is probably shorter than that.) Travel time will also be impacted by stop lights, traffic and other random events. Speeding eats up more gas, is harder on your engine and puts you (and other drivers) at greater risk.

So slow down, be safe and obey the speed limit on your way to work - cause you can't beat the law (of physics). :-)
