This webinar will examine the current abuse of prescription medications. This will include identifying the top Rx drugs of abuse, how they are abused, and their current street values. Lesser known sources of diversion will be examined, along with tips on how to prevent being a target of drug seekers. The current effectiveness of abuse-deterrent Rx formulations, specifically, OxyContin, would be examined.

The guideline governing the management of dyslipidemia was recently revised at the end of 2013. Several critical changes were made to the guideline, including the elimination of specific lipid goals, a new method to calculate cardiovascular risk, identification of four groups where treatment benefit clearly outweighs risk, and a stronger focus on statin therapy. It is imperative to disseminate these updates to healthcare practitioners, so that they can provide evidence-based, patient-centered care as members of an interdisciplinary team.

An optimal post-surgery recovery with no delaying complications facilitates discharge, saves the patient and the hospital money, and improves patient perceptions of their hospital experience. Post-operative complications are one of the most significant independent risk factors leading to delayed discharge of patients from the hospital as well as 30-day hospital readmissions. Pharmacists can play a vital role in pharmacological care of the surgical patient. This program will focus on perioperative pharmacotherapy options to address common complications or issues that can potentially delay the discharge of the surgical patient.

This program is accredited as a patient safety program and has been approved by the Florida Board of Pharmacy to meet Florida's state specific medication error requirements. This program also meets the general medication error requirements of other states which do not have state specific requirements. The goal of this program is to show how commitment to continuous quality improvement in the pharmacy will reduce the risk of medication errors. By examining case studies of actual medication errors and the efforts made to mitigate future errors pharmacists and pharmacy technicians will be able to see areas in their own practice that may need improvement and specific ways that these improvements can be made.

Over 100 million Americans suffer with chronic pain every day. The first step in identifying and managing this complaint is to detect and assess the pain. Practitioners receive little formal education on this during their training. Participants in this program will learn how to successfully identify and assess potential or actual pain.
