Jacky Davis: The health industrial complex has been eyeing up the NHS budget for years. Building the myth that it is 'outdated and unaffordable' is just the first step

This gives me a cold shiver.

It reminds me of the rhetoric that proceeded the introduction of university fees. And a decade or so it moved from 3k GBP to 40k GBP at the same time as resulting in a net funding decrease to the universities.

I do not understand the British political group's obsession with deconstructing the welfare state.

And I like her because she had contempt for the French:
'her parachute had snagged in a tree. The French resistance fighter who freed her said he wished all trees bore "such beautiful fruit". Nancy retorted: "Don't give me that French shit."'

Tony, you  probably do not think highly of politicians completely ignorant of technology. You are clearly without information about how Congress works. In terms of political awareness, that was truly an equivalent to the "series of tubes" description by Stevens.  I recommend this:

I find it hard to understand how Social Security can be "cut" when our dollars directly fund it, and its sole use is supposed to be to fund retirement.  I agree with Ms. Warren's sentiment, Social Security itself needs an overhaul.

If it were a standalone investment product, no financial advisor in the world would recommend you investing in it.

"I can tell you it didn't happen that way because I was born nine years after the first world war began. I can attest that life for most people was spent in abject poverty where one laboured under brutal working conditions for little pay and lived in houses not fit to kennel a dog today. We must remember that the war was fought by the working classes who comprised 80% of Britain's population in 1913.

Today, we have allowed monolithic corporate institutions to set our national agenda. We have allowed vitriol to replace earnest debate and we have somehow deluded ourselves into thinking that wealth is wisdom. But by far the worst error we have made as a people is to think ourselves as taxpayers first and citizens second."

I've used AnyJunk London twice now in the past couple of years and they were great both times. Their website has a really nice way of helping you estimate how many cubic meters you have, and their people have been consistently prompt and quick and pleasant. I've got them permanently bookmarked.
