In the spring of 1993, Artie Cutler's restaurant empire was booming. After the tremendous success of Carmine's Italian Family Style locations in Times Square and on the Upper West Side, Artie wanted to add a new concept to the mix. He wanted to open an authentic barbecue restaurant in the heart of Times Square. He soon found the right location at 152 West 44th Street, and began a barbecue exodus along the backroads of the South. Artie sampled copious amounts of the best barbecue across Tennessee, Kentucky, the Carolinas, Missouri, and Texas, building a BBQ portfolio that would become the fundamental components of Virgil's menu. After learning the best practices, Artie began offering products of the highest quality, right in line with the core values of the Alicart Restaurant Group.

Long-standing BBQ joint turning out down-home meats & sides in the Times Square area.- Google
"If you want a T-bone steak , pass over."
"It may or may not be real barbeque, but it's definitely fake design!"

Times Sq, friday night. Happy hour was making the place buzzing, but after 8:00, the place starts to empty out. Sat upstairs in the dining area, service was pretty good and professional. Brisket was pretty good. Not too soft, not too dry, it was just right for my taste. The other entrees my coworkers ordered were not so great. Ribs were dry, they don't fall off the bone, and the pulled pork sandwich was so dry it seemed like pork jerky. Plus....they give a lot of food. But be prepared to drink a lot to combat the dryness of the food.

From the moment you put that maple butter on your hush puppies you are sold!!!! This is amazing Bar-B-Que at it's best!!!!! I particularly over the Disco fries fully loaded, the chicken wings and all the sides. You must be a fan of dry rubbed ribs to really long the ribs. This food is amazing!!! Hands down a guaranteed good experience in Times Square.

Typically I would never recommend a Times Square joint, but this is an easy exception. It's some of the best quality BBQ you'll find anywhere in Manhattan, and the portions are enough to leave everyone happy. I come to this place several times a year when I have a real hankering for good BBQ. Make sure you get the hush puppies as an appetizer, but be warned: one order serves about 3-4 people easily.

Paul will be a reason that I return to Virgil's. He was very attentive and welcoming with every need I had. The food was absolutely amazing and the drink were ofcourse nothing but top tier. I highly recommend Virgil's to anyone that is considering anything close to an amazing experience.

Good atmosphere, good mixed drinks, and consistently great food. For the money, it's easily the best food on Times Square.

Came here for Valentine's Day 2014. We've eaten at all the other barbeque restaurants in the Times Square area. We were excited from the things we heard, and read, but was disappointed after the meal. Our server was a wonderful, attentive lady, not too pushy or talky. We asked the gentleman who delivered our beverages for more butter to eat with the hush puppies we ordered for our appetizer, it STILL hasn't made it to the table. The sweet cream butter was the best thing on the table. I had the surf and turf and was disappointed in blandness of the ribs, and the fact that I was served only four shrimp. For the price of the meal, we should have enjoyed ourselves more. The competitors in the area turned out to have better quality and quantity. I would also like to suggest that Virgil's place captions on their t.v.'s since music is playing over what is on their screens. Okay place if you don't have high expectations. Bring someone you like, not love . . .

I don't even know where to begin when describing how ultimately amazing Virgil's BBQ is. The thing I must comment on is the unsurpassed level of genuinely excellent service from the most adept and absolutely stunning hostess I have ever met, named Jonay. Her level of care, attention to detail, and a most certain knack for making the customer feel important pervade her every action. I will most definitely be back just because of her. As for the food? The incredible flavors of their succulent culinary offerings are only exceeded by how quickly we received the dishes we ordered. Overall an excellent staff, atmosphere, and cuisine.

Virgil's hasn't shared anything with you.

People are more likely to share with you if you add them to your circles.
