Hello OD&D group. Thanks for the add. I am actually a life long Traveller player. My first RPG experience was D&D at around 11 or 12. I died right away in a battle with trolls or goblins as a level one fighter and no idea what I was doing. I was inspired by RPG's from that point forward playing Star Frontiers, Top Secret and then discovering Traveller. That was and still is my game. Seeing a lot of stuff written about the nostalgia of the 1977 little black books.
I recently realized the similairities in books and size of OD&D to Traveller. Now I have an interest in OD&D in my late 40's. I want to play the original game. I did have the 1983 Basic and Expert set as a kid but never played it and those books are long lost. The biggest reason Ibought it was because my mother was against D&D because of the Christian mumbo Jumbo of the time and anything I wasn't suppose to do held a priority to have.
Any suggestions on how to play or start. I do have the OD&D PDF's. I am thinking in some ways I may be able to experience this game in a whole new light then Veteran fantasy gamers coming from the Traveller world I am completely green to D&D. I would like to experience the original game.

I have been on a crazy Traveller project. Re create a Home ruled Classic Traveller version of the New Battle Star Galactica. So I did it!!! Okay the Battle Star Galactica is monstrous. It is 1414 meters long 177 meters in height and 555 meters in width plus it has the Port and Starboard bays at a 615 meters long 64 in height and 110 meters in width and remember there are two of these bays. I came up with rounding down to the nearest million I came up with 147 million cubic meters. A Traveller hull ton is 14 cubic meters so I made the Hull at 10.5 Million Hull tons. I wanted to be Classic but had to use high guard for the drives and computer. I gave it a jump-3, and 2G acceleration and enough fuel using my home rules for it to make 2 jumps and 16 weeks of operation. The ship has 828 Classic Traveller turrets with Pulse Beam Missiles and Sandcasters plus a whole lot of extra missile storage. Galactica has 4 Model/9fib computer systems. It has 4500 staterooms and 2250 emergency lowberths .There are 160 Viper 15 ton 6G triple turret fighters, 24 Far Scout Couriers, and 24 non jump shuttles The ship has its own built in Hospital facilities, self sustaining hydroponic production capable of supporting double occupancy and technology duplicating maintenance shops. Using Traveller terms it totals a cost of over 580 Billion Credits.

Did any players ever use one of these devices in your game? We did last night in our google hangouts/roll20 game. Quite an experience. Were playing our referees custom Hybrid Mega Traveller system with T5 makers in a custom Helix Nebula setting with 3D cluster subsector maps. His system is flawless and smooth. Great game. Ohh and the experience of infiltrating an ice world with a ship only willing to pass near orbit and drop us down via these re-entry pods is quite exceptional. Following the die role process of using one of these plus the referees props really brought the experience to life and created a very unique imaginative visualization. Could you imagine how terrifying, exciting and dramatic this experience would really be?

How is your game going? I am sad that I am unable to play due to my rotating night shift work schedule.

Last week I went back to Wisconsin to visit family and friends. One of the things on my itinerary was a Saturday night session of Classic Traveller. My two sons, my brother his old high school best friend and son sat down and rolled characters. I had no idea what we were going to do. Zero, total sandbox.. Then it came to me when one of the players received a Scoutship beneift. Thats it wetre going completely old school. Imperial Fringe!!!! That is exactly what we did using my home rules, my Classic Custom Charts and Tables, The Traveller RPG Wiki and The Traveller map on my laptop.
We were off!! The dettached duty scout courier ISS Aurora with a double pulse beam turret and a crew of mercenary type characters began the Spinward Marches Grand survey. It was fabulous and very fun!!! We played for damned near 6 hours. The crew eager to get paid higher to survey a red zone system had their surprise on Djinni. I turned the world into a very hostile silent tropical ship ghost yard filled with deceptive aggressive carnivorous predators. It was epic. Th crew barely escaped the planet with a solid report intact.
It is amazing how an old PDF can still be so valid today. I don't need to spend a fortune on a new re invented wheel version of Traveller. I have everything I need in Classic to bring anything to life my PC's would like!!! #travellerrocks

This is my Agweedo Rim Subsector. It is far trailing rimward of the Interstellar Coalition coreworlds and Solar System. The year is 3517. The Greys are real and allies. The Reptilians are rivals. The Pleiadans are peaceful and doing there own thing. There are many minor races, hybrids, mutants and ainimal uplifts. The Interstellar Coalition of Worlds dominates and controls human space and trade. The Agweedo Rim is a true frontier filled with endless adventure. The Game is Classic Traveler with homerule tweaks!!!
