I went here because I saw they had a special on a deal site for a service I needed, but I never expected to leave feeling so positive. I'm a very anxious person and my history of one bad car situation after another has left me extremely apprehensive when it comes to car repairs. When we arrived at the shop the gentleman at the front desk was very welcoming, and got us checked in. The waiting area was equipped with a drink fridge fully stocked and a comfortable waiting area, and a great selection of movies my 4 year old child watch while we waited. When it came time to discuss recommendations Phil was very patient with me as I asked several questions to understand basic car functions. I never pay for things I don't understand. I couldn't afford to do the recommendations right away, but he did an excellent job speaking with me until I felt confident that I understood what was needed. I gave this 4 stars because I was told it would a certain time and it took considerably longer, but there was also a glitch where my appointment wasn't on the schedule, so that's probably due to them squeezing me in. Additionally their parts look a little pricier than I'd love, but they do offer a 2 year warranty on their parts and service. Overall I'm very impressed and will be returning. I may have found an honest trust worthy mechanic that I'm not leaving feeling ripped off. Huge thanks to Phil for taking the time to explain things to me without making me feel stupid!

In short - customer service was very good, pricing/honesty was atrocious. I hope if you get work done by this shop that you check around and make sure they aren't trying to take advantage of you like they did me. These guys were friendly and even gave me a ride home, so the customer service aspect was great, but the pricing and advice was atrocious. My car broke down in Sandy, which was a bit far from my normal mechanic, so I jumped on Google to see if there were any good mechanics close and found these guys. I had my car towed in and they told me the problem was my battery and I would need a new one. The price they quoted was higher than several other places that I later called to install the same battery. I drive home and the next day within 10 minutes of driving, my car dies in the exact same manner as before. So, I call them and they call a tow-truck to come get me, which was nice and part of the good customer service. I told them that it obviously wasn't the battery and that I would like to put the old battery back in and have a refund, but they said they had already disposed of the old battery and I could not get any refund. I was unhappy at this and it raised a serious red flag for me. A competent shop should be able to tell if battery is good or not. I later took my car to another shop that said any shop that wouldn't always show you the read-out from a battery test was shady - Reliable never even asked if I wanted to see it. They have my car for another day before declaring they then believed the problem to be a crankshaft sensor and it would be over $400 to replace. At this point I called my regular mechanic along with 7 or 8 other shops to see how much they would charge for the parts and labor compared to Reliable for this crankshaft sensor. Of each of the other shops, Reliable was by FAR the highest, including shops such as Firestone and Big O etc. I ended up getting it installed for about $150, which means Reliable tried to charge me over $250 more than they should have.

I found this company only a month ago, but I have used them three times. Their oil changes were quicker, cheaper and done more professionally then Walmart has ever had done before. I am leaving on a trip soon, so I had them inspect my van for possible issues. They found several things that have been making noises, that would have possibly had me broken down on the side of the road, if they wouldn't have repaired them. I have been living with these noises from the front right side for quite a while, and that no one else could figure them out. While my van was in the shop, I walked across the street to Jordan Commons and saw a movie. It was great. I would stake my reputation on their amazing service anytime. I also had a bolt fall off my brake caliper, which completely made my car inoperable and needed to be town in. Even though it sat in their bay for half a day taking up space trying to find this unique part, they told me is was such a simple job, THEY DIDN'T CHARGE ME FOR PARTS OR LABOR. They do almost everything including transmissions. Paul from Riverton

After having Reliable work on my Honda, I took my Honda back to the dealer for a mfr recall and discovered the power steering flush that Reliable performed had fluid oozing from the top of the reservoir and was filled with bubbles. I will contact you to follow up if the bleed was done properly and all air is out of the line.

Reliable isn't perfect but no mechanic can be. The reason for my 5-star review is based on their willingness to do the right thing. As my wife and I went through a series of mishaps with our car Reliable was upfront about what they knew and when problems were uncovered after the fact they didn't nickel and dime us, they simply went the extra mile to complete the job (beyond the initially known issues with our car).

I just moved out here from CO, and had a great mechanic back home that I had been going to for over 10 years, so I was worried about finding a place I could trust in Sandy. I had an issue with my RDX where it started making strange noises and steam came out from under the hood while it was idling, and my battery was dead in the morning. When I called Reliable Auto, they got me in right away even though I was a new customer. My car was driving fine and there were no warning lights on. They inspected my car and said that everything looked good, and they weren't sure what had happened, but they couldn't find anything that they could justify fixing. Later that afternoon my car began making the same noises while idling. I recorded the noise on my phone and took it straight back to Reliable Auto. They offered to keep my car overnight and gave me a loaner so they could check it out first thing in the morning. When they called in the morning, they told me there was a problem with the AC compressor and gave me an estimate for just over $1200, which I approved. When my car was finished that afternoon, they told me the source of the issue was different than they initially thought and my total was only $220. They easily could have taken me for the $1200 I had initially approved. My car is now running perfectly and I couldn't be more happy with this shop. I really appreciate their honesty and am glad I have found a place I can trust out here. They will definitely be my new mechanic for as long as I'm in Salt Lake and I would recommend them to anyone!

Lets face it, going to the mechanic is never any fun, its like going to the doctor. The only times you get to see them is something is wrong or your preventing something going wrong. But With my experience with these guys I would definitely recommend them, The trouble was not only identified quickly, but also shown and explained. That is something that I have never ever had happen and it was certainly a welcome surprise. Thanks again guys!

Realiable is far from my experience. My wife brought our car(94 Toyota camery) to the shop to get it looked over because it was making a funny noise and was just not running right. No big deal right? She asked if they could tell us what was wrong with it and to give her a full diagnosis on it. So they look at it and come back to her with, because the check engine light was not on all they could do was really just check it out based on there knowledge to see what needed to be fixed off of what they saw. Again no big deal. So I call them to get the run down and I get the same story. Realiable Auto tells me the motor mounts are missing, the oil pan had a leak, an air flow valve needed to be replaced and some other things that I could hold off on. 1st of all, I know for a fact it did not leak oil. It sat in my drive way for 2 months with out one drop of oil. So I tell them to go ahead and do the motor mounts and air valve but hold off on the gasket for the oil pan. Realiable Auto calls me and says it's done and good to go.( We pay the bill $380 in cash. ) So my son picks it up and tells me that the noise it was making before was still happening. I get home the next day and sure enough it's making a loud grinding type noise. I instantly take it to a different shop for a 2nd opinion and they were able to tell me that even though the check engine light was not on that it still pulled some codes but that was the least of my worries because the Transaxle was all but gone. And it needs a new transmission. (I'm pissed) So I go to Realiable Auto and confront Ken and let him know about my 2nd opinion diagnosis. He tries to tell me it never made that noise while he had it. (WHATEVER that's why I brought it in in the first place. Plus the transaxle didn't go out over night) So I bring the car back to him right before close and he was about to leave and he says just leave it here and I will look at in the morning. I insist we get in the car now and take it for a ride so he can hear the noise. Of course him being in a hurry he says drive it around to the back of the shop. We do and no noise...(5 mph) He looks at me and says see there's no noise. Hold on I say..I pull out on to state street and sure enough the noise happens. Ken looks very confused now. I tell him that if he gave me a proper diagnosis that I needed a new transmission that I would have never spent the $380 in the first place. I leave it for him the next day so he can see why it was making the noise and sure enough he confirms what the 2nd opinion mechanic said, The transaxle is gone. I ask why didn't he find this problem in the first place???? Again I would have never invested $380 if I knew from the get go that it needed a new transmission. He tries to blow smoke up my a** and tip toe around that he could only fix what he saw was wrong. Never mind the noise that he supposedly had fixed. He claims originally the noise was from the motor mounts being gone and the motor shifted making that noise. Engine shifting and the transaxle grind noise are completely different noises. How could he let my 17 year old son leave his shop still making the noise. I ask him and my self did you even drive my car after you said it was fixed and to come get it????? Ken said they did and my guess is it was driven alright...from the bay to the parking stall. All said and done he wants to know how he can make this better? I say I want my money back. He refunds me the cost of the labor and that's it.( When he refunds me the money he asks for my card which I reply "I paid cash" and he says " but do you want it on a card?" Umm...let me see...NO) Bottom line, my opinion of Realiable Auto is that they are to incomponent to deliver a good "realiable" diagnosis of a car. And will just fix things with out looking at the bigger picture. I will not recommend this shop to family and friends or anybody. What a waste of time and money!
