Lightroom could be wasting valuable disk space

Another day, another Lightroom bug. And an old one this is.

I discovered this by pure chance the other day. It looks like there is a bug in Lightroom which ignores the compression settings the user has set in the external editing preferences and sends the files uncompressed to photoshop.

What that means is that if you are sending your files as TIF to photoshop, you could be wasting from small to huge amounts of disk space, depending on the image, layers, etc.

The bug has been known for several years now, but unfortunately, no action has been taken so far.

If you are affected by this, a workaround is before closing the image in Photoshop, to select "Save As", instead of "Save", and apply the appropriate compression settings in the dialog box. The image will be saved and visible in your Lightroom catalogue.

For more information, you can check the bug report here:

The Lightroom Keyword List Project, offers nested keyword lists, allowing users to effectively and cosistently tag their images.

Even if you are not sure about which keyowrds would suit an image, simply treat each category as a question to which you have to give an answer.

By the time who have done this step, your photo will at least have some basic keywords which you may use confidently.

And when you export your photos for posting on social media, those tags will travel with them, making sharing and discoverability that much easier.

For more information, guides and free downloads of the lists go to http://lightroom-keyword-list-project.blogspot.gr/

Nik software suite provides high quality plugins for editing your photos.

The fact that it is now completely free, leaves only one question to be answered.

Why haven't you downloaded the app yet?
Today we’re making the Nik Collection available to everyone, for free.

Photo enthusiasts all over the world use the Nik Collection to get the best out of their images every day. As we continue to focus our long-term investments in building incredible photo editing tools for mobile, including Google Photos and Snapseed, we’ve decided to make the Nik Collection desktop suite available for free, so that now anyone can use it.

The Nik Collection is comprised of seven desktop plug-ins that provide a powerful range of photo editing capabilities -- from filter applications that improve color correction, to retouching and creative effects, to image sharpening that brings out all the hidden details, to the ability to make adjustments to the color and tonality of images.

Starting March 24, 2016, the latest Nik Collection will be freely available to download: Analog Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro, Silver Efex Pro, Viveza, HDR Efex Pro, Sharpener Pro and Dfine. If you purchased the Nik Collection in 2016, you will receive a full refund, which we’ll automatically issue back to you in the coming days.

We’re excited to bring the powerful photo editing tools once only used by professionals to even more people now.

If you like shooting in city parks, national parks or just parks and wish you had a keyowrd list that, well, listed quite a few of them, this is your lucky day.

+Theodore Kapela was kind enough to let me know that he had indeed created such a list, and has made it available through Github.
