My Mother and I came to San Francisco for a week of sightseeing. At the last minute we changed to the Hotel Monaco, a Kimpton Hotel. I am so glad. We were greeted with a smile everyday by Danny, coming and going. Danny, Eddie and Jackson were always helpful to send us on our way with all questions answered and directions to keep us straight. Their restaurant was in renovation, so everyday there was a continental breakfast for us. The room was always clean and the gym was great, even for my 87 year old mother!. Location was good for all our jaunts. They accommodated us, adding my daughter on for the weekend. We are very happy with our treatment. Danny was very special. We will come back in the future

Let me first off disclose that I love Kimpton hotels. The Hotel Monaco was no exception. The lobby and room decor may be over the top, but the customer service and cleanliness are top notch. I was able to check in to my room before 11am! The SF location is not ideal, but I felt safe and for the price, it was well worth it. Thanks for another great stay, Kimpton.

I loved the decor of this hotel. I was wowed from the moment I walked in. The decore reminded me of being in a story book. It was a treat. To top it off, I found the service to be excellent. From the front desk all the way around. I will make it a point to seek out the Kimpton name from now on. Examples of service - some how the little bottle of shampoo was missing. I called down to the front desk and they sent up full replacements of all the bottles. I had trouble printing off a document in the business center. They removed all business center charges and printed my document at the front desk. I found both ladies I dealt with to be friendly and very helpful. They have a complementary continental breakfast (because the restaurant next door is under renovations.) and a complementary wine evening.

This hotel is going down the drain. It is unfortunate as this used to be a good hotel located centrally in San Francisco. But this is now a decaying hotel with rude staff and breaking down amenities. I usually stay at Kimpton properties as I can expect a minimum standard of amenities and friendly service. This hotel does not meet Kimpton standards any more and gives a feeling of rotting and spiraling down. The service was very disappointing and what's worse, I found the people rude and unfriendly. I found the front desk staff in general to be quite rude. They must also be contracting out the house keeping services which I found to be way below any hotel I ever stayed in. I needed a towel, and since the house keeping cart was near by, I though I would get one from there instead of calling the front desk. I asked the woman near the cart for a towel, and was shocked when instead I received a big lecture about how her stock of towel is limited,. WHAT KIND OF A PLACE IS THIS? THIS PLACE CANNOT AFFORD TO GIVE A TOWEL TO A GUEST ANY MORE? Another shock was when I wanted to order room service. NO ONE ANSWERED!!! I tried three times,once even going through the operator. I got a voice mail to "LEAVE A MESSAGE WITH MY ORDER"!!!! Imagine that!!! I don't even want to talk about the service at the Cafe! Their excuse is that the place will close in a few weeks. Then WHY EVEN KEEP IT OPEN IF YOU CANNOT PROPERLY SERVE YOUR CUSTOMERS? I do not know how far this hotel is going down, but it will be wise to stay away from it until these people change

Nice hotel with good service close by the union square for good prices. But bedrooms are small, any place to unpack your stuff and bathrooms would definitely needed a refresh! Forget also about taking your breakfast at the hotel! See the review of the cafe next door...

The hotel itself was ok. But then I saw a charge on my visa for a bottle of wine in room service that I never had. I brought this up with them and got an initial response from Lauren Nicole Gruber, Front Office Supervisor, but after repeated attempts to get them to reverse the charge (or even just respond to me) I finally gave up. I travel a lot and never had this happen. I've now had my events team put this hotel on our "no-go" list for San Francisco.
